I also used the ones that were already there too.
The left mount (under exhaust mani) is held on further forward that the right mount and iirc uses the bolt holes that held the 535i mounts on, dont think ive got a pic but ill have a look
You ok with the inlet side mount?

Here, use these bolt 3 holes and use the original 17mm bolts
There's a hole behind the original mount (long arrow)

thanks rav, i can only get so far until the bolts dont go any further, i didnt want to force them incase they break.
Thanks lee, i found your pics of the inlet side will have a go tomorrow, did the inlet bracket cause any problems in getting the correct angle?
Nearly engine in time, just need to do sump gasket and find a 325 gearbox to rob the linkage and prop flange from hopefully get one by the weekend.

Clean the holes up with some WD40 and you will be fine, i think the bolts are about an inch long
You will need to open up the hole a little on the support because as it sits on the mount it pushes it out, tbh the support isnt 'really' needed, ive been running without for a few months with no problems

Inlet Mainfold brachet needs modding slightly, opening up one of the bolt holes iirc.noclue wrote:thanks rav, i can only get so far until the bolts dont go any further, i didnt want to force them incase they break.

Do check the length of the bolts, i defo used the same ones, but don't overtighten or you will cause damage to the block.

If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right!
CR24v??? Where's it all gone?? LOL
i checked them and cleaned the holes and they are too long, i didnt want to damage the block so will just get some at the correct lengthRav335uk wrote:

i have left mine off now too
this is the problem i was having with the mount nuts being too long, so got some new smaller ones made from a local machining shop:

changed the sump gasket today pita, glad i did it though while it was out, tomorrow sort the shortshifter and linkage out then ready to put in.
does anyone remember what size the big nut is on the prop flange? looks around 30mm deep.

Right a little update,
all the service work has been done, just need to wait until my load leveller comes hopefully next week so i can put the engine in.
one question i got the t-piece from cotswold as per sticky.
but the pipe that goes from the T to the heather matrix, what did everyone use? the 5 series one has 2 opening on the end one which goes to the heather matrix and one which went to the header tank.
Do i need to go a buy a new pipe?

Getting a little annoyed now, i have managed to get the engine in at position number 2, but no matter what angle i use on the load leveller i cannot get it onto position number 3.
Mean to be working on it today not in the mood atm
Anyone help? what the trick to getting it in?

yeah i tried that rav, but it didnt help, atm its sitting in position 2. I have trouble getting the engine in straight, its does lop-sided.Rav335uk wrote:I slackened the rubber mounts abit so they could be slightly moved, have you tried this?
Did you knock the transmission tunnel in? as that the only thing that may help.

Exhaust side is the worse to do, try what Rav said
My method is to get the inlet side in pos 3 first, then remove the exhaust side mount (arm) but leave one bolt in so the mount will swing up and onto the rubber mount, put the other two bolts back in and tighten it all up.

I "Slightly" massaged the transmission tunnel abit, but when I looked when the engine was in pos3, it didn't really need it.

i wonder what im doing wrong then?!?Rav335uk wrote:I "Slightly" massaged the transmission tunnel abit, but when I looked when the engine was in pos3, it didn't really need it.
will reassess the situation, this is what i did last time.
Jack the front of the car up on axle stands. Drop the engine in pretty much vertically, then level it using the load leveller, while pushing it back towards the bulkhead, But only managed number 2.

I didn't have mine on stands, it was on the floor, had a skateboard to put underneath the g/box and lowered the engine/box together, you need 2 people to get it into pos3 though

If your in pos 2 your almost there, slacken off the gearbox crossmember support so it will slide back and forth, take the weight of the engine with either a hoist or trolley jack under the sump, get the mounts off (inlet side not really nessasary) then slide it back enough to get the mounts back on.
You dont need two people Rav
If you were closer id do it for you

If you can get the inlet side on your halfway there, you wont be able to lift the exhaust side high enough to get it over the thread because of the servo, zaust wrote:Beefy's.
When if I put the mount in the side of the servo it touches already, leaving no room to swing the other mount into position. Or vice vresa.
remove the exhaust side mount then put it on the rubber mount first in pos 3, then bolt it to the block
Easy

plenty room
Position 3

Its virtually imposible to tilt the engine to get the exhaust side mount over the stud, you can cut the stud down shorter to make it easier but its even easier this way
