To get the E28 rad to fit?

The rad supports welded to the shell need to go so the E28 rad will slide down between the chassis rails

They are hard to get to with the engine in,i only removed the one on the passenger side and after failing with the grinder, hacksaw, etc... i smashed it down with a solid bar :D

Dont forget you will need a longer bottom hose or modify one like i did

Image

You can see in that pic the drivers side support still there

I drove mine 10 miles to have the exhaust mated to the maniflods. Sounded awsome in the hatfield tunnel.

Zaust done and the clutch is now fine.
Ran out of time so the diff still needs change and the fan was just hooked upto the battery for the test drive.

The temp is alittle to high for my liking(was sitting about 3/4 when driving hard and sat at 1/2 at idle with the fan on) so my have a wee airlock but the heaters are working fine.
Any thoughts?

I must say im impressed with the pulling power in every gear ,it does shift.Gear change is taking a bit of getting used to as the short shift seem alot different now.

Dont think the 1.6 diff will last long so swapping that for the 3.64 will be the next job.
Then tidy up the engine bay and fit a switch for the fan.(what switch are you using if you have one?)

What will you be using the car for, driving round town, or motorway driving???
Round town driving, 3.64 is great.
Motorway, then a 3.46 is better, you can sit around 100mph at only 3000rpm

Fits in the top hose.

Unless you want to wire the one you have through the fusebox and relay for a twin speed setup

The car is only usually used at the weekends and for meets, so a combo of town/motorway really.

It might get used alot more now tho as i reckon it will have my classic wrx/sti in its back pocket

I feel a race coming on winkeye

Not really sure what to do tbh.
I was just going to wire it to a switch in the dash through a switch live and turn it on/off when needed.

Is this feasible? Will i need a relay or just an inline fuse?

If just opting for the switch, your better with a fuse and wiring it through a relay.

i replicated the original (aircon) fan wiring on mine so it has a slow and fast facility.

what fan do you have again? if you have a E32/4 fan and rad (from and aircon equipped car), you should the two speed switch, relays, fan and resistor to get it all up and running. the actual fan on mine had siezed so i used everything else and now have a spal fan

if you still have it lurking, the large resistor (about 10x10x50mm) that's attached is what you'll need for stealthy low speed operation

We got back at it tonight to change the diff .
The car still had the original diff fitted and it was a struggle to remove but its out.The replacement diff's bolt threads are tight so going to run a tap down them first before its fitted.(Gareth you have pm Re tap size).

Also spotted the e28 rad has a pin hole so thats going to have to be changed  which is a nightmare as it means sourcing another and a drain down again.

Bit pissed off with it atm tbh but we'll get there .
