I've got an m20b28 with a 272/272 schrick camshaft running a speedtouch chip. New single prong spark plugs (whatever the recommended ones are), new distributor, new rotor arm, but original coil and leads. All vacuum pipes (FPR, rocker cover -> throttle body and brake booster) have been replaced.
It runs perfectly - lovely and torquey (for what it is) with a decent powerband, albeit a bit lumpy at idle, which it can often hunt to find for a few seconds and it's generally a bit of a dick to start when it's a cold ambient temperature (sounds like a lumpy v8 drag racer for the first few minutes if left to idle, which I do quite like
Anyway, it's over fueling from what I can tell - it smells very petrolly (a friend followed me back from a meal the other day, and asked her partner in their car what the smell was - apparently it's was the unburnt petrol out of my car - I didn't realise it was that bad!) and if held at constant revs, you can hear a frequent popping noise from the exhaust. MPG is at around 23.5 for a mostly A-road commute.
I've not had it rolling roaded/checked the AFR yet. Is there anyone who can do 'live mapping' for the 1.3 Montronic system? I know it's not as simple as plugging in a modern car, but I guess it must be possible with an eeeprom chip emulator? Failing that, does anyone deal with flashing new maps/chips, testing them, modifying them, reflashing etc.?
Cheers!
Joe
