Polly windows and fibreglass panels?

I am looking for some cheap/2nd hand polly windows and also fibreglass bonnet and boot for an '89 saloon - any idea's where i can these from if its possible - currently building a track day car on a small budget

Oh yes, most things in hand but not got fortunes to spend - car only cost me 180quid an ebay bargain for once, not going overboard as mostly doing airfield track days and trying to lose a bit weight on the cheap (done the things that don't cost me anything but my time!), so relativley safe

The solid plastic insert with in the bumper weigh approx 10kg each, this is often an area people forget when stripping out the e30.

I have plastic windows and I have to admit you dont really save an awful lot with them. Although in fairness I havent done the rear screen.

As for fibreglass bits and pieces TrackM3 sells them on here. Martin's stuff is very good.

Just remember one thing, buy cheap, buy twice

plastic windows-try any car glass company as they can sell you sheets of the stuff so you can cut them down ,should save you a few quid over ready cut ones

What's it weigh at the moment? Mine's at 1010kg with the glass still in and a cage.

Abs pump weighs a tonne (4.5kg) Lightweight battery can save you 10kg.

Wheels? My compomotives with tyres are 2.5kg each heavier than the standard BBS.

Heater is probably another 5kg

Underseal?

Lots of stuff to get shot of. Then again I would have poly's if I was allowed.

how do these come out, when i was looking at them the otherday i couldnt work out how they were removed. any tips to get them out?

what would you do with the bumper skins once the support has gone?

iirc the solid plastic has a series of clips, and gromits (that open up when you push the male part in) holding it in

You need to keep the bracket bit that holds it to the car. What I did was break it all down into bits, cut out the bit I didn't need, left myself with the brackets and rebolted it together.

that's the first time somebody says the right thing about plastic windows.
IMO they are a very very last on the list for a track day car. In a full blown racer with everything done, fair enough.

There is a lot of other "free" stuff to be removed first. Sound proofing, underseal, all obsolete/unused brackets. Wiring!

Your right about the wiring Uwe! I removed miles of the stuff and that was from a race prepped car. ABS loom weighs a fair bit on it's own.

Thanks for your comments, still got wiring to do, dont fancy doing the underseal much, hell of a job!

Weigh your battery!!! My old Halfwits one was 19kg. A redtop 30 is about 9. It's a quick but pricey weigh of losing ten and if you can get away with a smaller one then even better. The Varley one started my car all day without a hiccup and can be layed flat in the passenger footwell.

One of the main benefits of changing to plastic wondows is dropping teh centre of gravity. Having said that, the weight difference isn't all that big until you do the rear window and have NOTHING else left to lighten!!
