I will be deleting my front bumper shocks and fitting a light weight fibreglass bumper and apron...
The bumper shock assembly will be completely removed and replaced with a small bracket to fit some quick release things. (thanks to someone on here for the idea!) Where should I fit a tow strap to the front of the car now that Im removing the tow eye?

Mount it to the front of the chassis rail and poke it through a hole in the bumper - perhaps cut one for it?

Was it my popper idea? If so, I'm just going to mount a tow strap through the existing bolt holes used for the bumper shock

Yep it was your idea ross, Iv just ordered the bits required. Ill weigh everything when Im doing it but Im hoping for a substantial loss, probably the equivalent to converting to a carbon bonnet.
Ill use the bumper shocks holes for the strap then, thanks!

I lost around 7.2kg, considerable weight given how far forward it is!

Bolt it to the chassis, and cut a rectangle in the bumper so strap can be pull straight.

Im not sure if using one of the existing m8 vertical bolt holes is such a good idea, sure the car will pull on level ground, and possibly even make it out of a gravel trap, but it sure as hell wont make it up a flatbed or trailer.

What would you suggest?

In an e30 it's THE ultimate place to loose weight. A bonnet is high on my list for the same reason.

I would weld an eye bolt plate to the upper or lower section of the chassis rail.

This will give you the best possible strength and alignment when the strap is under load.
On my own car, I just modified the stock bumper mounts to reduce as much weight as possible but still keeping the stock bolting system. Then a cheapo towing eye from ebay. Its only screwed in when in use, on track its off.

Mine use both the bolt holes. It was done like this:-
Was enough to pull me out of a ditch.

In that case, it must be ok then!
