145k miles, no tax/test, needs a new alloy and rear wheel bearing.

Thoughts on value?

2k ish sounds about right. It will cost at least another £500 by the time it has some rent on it. Then you need to pray that the chocolate engine does not poo itself :(

I am guessing it might make 3.5 ish done and tested.

Thanks Pete, it's a quattroporte. Does that make a big difference?

I guessed as much :( Coupe is obviously much more saleable, M Sport innit :)

Even as a quattroporte, it is still a saleable turd, new shape M Sport innit :)

F*cking executive!

Is doing the wheel bearing is a simple enough job on these turds?

Not bad if you have the suitable pullers. These shitheaps love a rusted/broken ABS ring so it makes sense to fit a new one with the shaft out. They're about a tenner each and easy to fit.

Horrible N46 engine with the the attendant dramas.

Pull up a chair , a cup of coffee and Google BMW N46 problems :(

On a positive note,at 145k , most of the issues should have been fixed, several times :)

I had a N42 powered turd. The only car I've ever had where the dipstick rusted. Bought a replacement and that rusted as well. Horrid engines :(

Oh, and oil leaks...and coil packs...and everything takes hours to fix. A true legacy of BMW's time with Rover. :)

I should be grateful though. No timing chain tensioner issues when I owned it. :)

If it's 2 grand or so then you can invest £5-600 on a new chain/tensioner, fix the oil leaks and replace the TDC sensor. With luck it should be okay but you still have the VVT motor, eccentric shaft wear and that sort of nonsense. I wouldn't give one garage space myself.

But if you can turn an eric on it.......

Eccentric shaft wear problem was sorted by then.

The E9x 3 series is a good car on the whole, but yours is saddled with THAT engine.

What's happening with the Hartge?!

Andyboy - the OPs car is a 320i which is M54B22 engine not a N42.

I'd say car was worth 2 - 2.5k depending on spec and condition.

The first post doesn't say it's an e90, just that's its 2006. E46 ran until May 2006 also. My confusion is valid! :)

But we had already established MUCH earlier in the thread that it was an E90 with the nasty N46 engine .

The E46 saloon was replaced in late 2005 by the E90 but E46 convertibles and coupes soldiered on for another year
