This annoys me, i went there the other day to find something and it was all missing.
Is there no way to stop it from happening?

As I understand the situation with the wiki,it was created and maintained by a zoner who has since moved on to pastures new,and no-one else has put their head above the parapet to take it over!

Knowing the guy who did the basic work, the zone now needs a website expert of some kind to come forward and offer their services, preferably for free...
And do not look at me,I struggle with google!

I think we need to start searching the zone for threads with guides on how to do things, and get them transferred onto the wiki. I did a few searching on there recently and nothing came back.

Means we can have less repeat threads when people can just find it on there...

Or perhaps have an open access for members who have been on the zone for x amount of time and x amount of posts, who can add and update things as we go along... Meaning spammers can just sign up and link other websites as they will have to actually post here first.

Would be good to have it more useful that it is at the moment.

I thought we could lock the threads and stop any further posts without the password

the fusebox one is the worst ..I keep going on and altering but some need deleting ...like the "fuse box"

can the mods lock the wiki or change the permissions for getting on ...otherwise we might as well abandon it

I have just changed a few back but it is a losing battle without help

Why allow any sort of editing without logging on ..this seems to be the trouble

Can't we just scrap the wiki altogether and host them on the zone in a dedicated section called guides?

I've seen it on other forums and I think it works really well.

Just a thought.

Just looking at the wiki and ignore what I said, I didnt realise we were all able to edit it already... I do think it should belocked to new members though for a set time period.Or like Stup86 said, maybe a guides section on the actual forum...

I do like the wiki though. :D

The point of the Wiki as originally conceived was likely due to the ability for users to edit their own topics. It also had/has a powerful search facility. Lastly it has to a certain extent been a means for people not registered to the E30Zone to search Google and come up with an answer the need. A spin off is that they then join the zone for further info.

Now, let's confront a couple of things head on.

AFAIK there is only one person who can actually do anything on the Wiki, which of course isn't good practise. I have had a look around and using some of my own servers having a look at protection, which can be either No Protection, Registered Users Only & SysOps I.e. the chiefs only.

My question to you is How Do You Make Your Articles? Do you Log In to the Wiki or do you just write something and hit save?

The future of the Wiki?
The admin team are still discussing the best step forward but my stance would be that IF we change then it should reflect the realoem database as that is a common medium we use.

For now...

I'm 100% aware of how the wiki system works from a database level (haven't bothered to check yet) but a post will go up today asking anyone to look for their wiki article - or one they particularly like, post it up and it will be fixed. It's probably better to do that at least to start with.

How's that sound?

I think if it was set out like realoem, clicking each link until you get to your problem, would be amazing.

The majority of issues would be the same for most cars anyway, I.e interior removal and things like that, or different engines etc etc, you get the picture.

But that layout gets my vote.:D

I wonder if we can use the wiki technology to turn it into the above. It's not a million miles away is it...

Anyway, speculation is not healthy so one of the team will likely update as far WHAT WE ARE DOING. For now we want to focus on getting that Wiki database ship shape again, which means we'll need your help.

And DaveD I am going through your contribs now. Wouldn't hurt to check again next on the off chance I've missed one.

Are we able to edit the wiki, in particular our own content? I wrote a huge addition about brakes theory and options on the brake upgrade wiki page there but I can't update it with any new stuff / options / info - plus there's a rather sneaky commercial link someone's added since (which I refrained from doing myself as I was trying to be fair). :?
