Storm in a teacup. This is just a continuing policy of reducing speed limits on rural roads, something that has been going on regularly for the last 10 or so years anyway. All that would happen if this is blocked is that the same roads would have their limits reduced to 50, but we'd all have to fork out for the necessary signage, rather than keeping the present signage and changing what it means. It's not something to get worked up about - and if it does pee pee you off, blame the wreckless teenagers putting their cars through hedges that have contributed to the statistical evidence that makes the policy of reducing speed limits on said roads a political necessity.
Clearly there are some regional differences. Here in North Yorkshire we have no speed cameras and I can't think of any 50mph limits outside of built up areas either. We have 40s and 30s in villages but once you get outside them its back to NSL.

In my experience, Somerset is crammed with random speed limits and huge forests of signs - they seem to take the opposite approach down there.

i dont pay attention to the 60 limit so changing it to 50 wont matter a fook anyway.

Fuzzy, that's the point - they'll back it up with more cameras and generate more cash.
Jules: It won't stop you doing that, but it is very good at hitting people doing 55 instead of 50.

Do you have to put your address in?
Don't really want a ton of junk mail in return for my good intentions...

As much as the No 10 petitions seem a good idea, i just dont like the idea of the 'gubment' having the ability to create a 'profile' even more than they can already.

I'd rather they didnt have a record of things that i disagree with... at best, it allows them the ability to target you with junk mail about 'road safety', 'eco-driving' or the 'car scrappage' scheme. At worst, they can stick you on their shit list (not that such a thing exists, but if it did, i'd rather not end up on it) 8O

It asks for your name and postcode to prove you live in the UK. I haven't got any junkmail from the road pricing scheme petition.
