Its not the rear manifold, its coming from the front turbo area but that is shrouded with heat shields and not very visible.

Forgot to say earlier, a lot more room than an E9x 335i!

Sorry about the clutch Si!

A battle plan has been forged for the work, Si just needs to lay some bricks to pay for the "Alpina tax" parts.

Nice power! As I'm uneducated, what did they produce from the factory?

I agree that it probably is an exhaust leak throwing the afr readings. At a real 15:1 you'd be melting pistons pretty rapidly! It looks like the exhaust has had a couple of repairs as the pipe looks a slightly different size by one of the boxes. Not suprising given the cost of replacement Alpina exhausts!

Imagine this and a lotus Carlton giving it hell for leather in 1994. What a pair of heros they woud have looked whilst everyone else is all excited about the new Astra gsi.

Alpina quote 360bhp and 385lbs on full boost and 300bhp on minimum. I think from what i've read they are a touch conservative figures for an uptogether healthy bi turbo.

The rear box is a bit sad but its £2500 new  i thought it shared this with the NA B10 but a second look reveals it doesn't its bi turbo only, yikes

nice to see she's making good power :D

Birds have done all the manifold studs and gaskets fairly recently, the bill was epic !

PS Clutch kit = Alpina only, approx £900 + vat :(

Perhaps that's why the previous owner sold it, knowing that the clutch was on its way out...

If you could see the bills the previous owner had been served with in his tenure, you would know that a 2k clutch job would barely be noticed.

When we went through the incredibly detailed history, it was noted that it did not appear to have ever had a clutch :(

Check out the maintenance bills on a 1993 Testarossa. A BiCurious will be a pittance by comparison.

Yep, that was the whole point - supercar peformance in an E34.

Lots of regular bits on these as well - the cam is standard 535i, 8 Series prop coupling, 750i front pads etc etc.

The previous owner paid 14,750 for this in 2003, munich bellends were involved in some way. He didn't like them hence using other garages for upkeep.

He spent on the upkeep of this car £17,795.45 8O No skin flinting here! I can save on labour but not alpina parts prices, its worth it with this car

:clin: Went to the dealer, wait for it!

454 + vat for pressure plate
289 + vat for friction disc
54 + vat for release bearing

total

£956.40 all in for the lot and a 5-6 week lead time for delivery, my dealer will give me 10% discount as there is only a 20% margin.

860 ouch,

Anyhow a chap gave a link to this performance sach clutch for bi turbos for alot less

568 euros, i guess meatballs could help a little also?!

says it can transmit 480Nm+ of torque, the car did 550Nm on the dyno on saturday. So will it be up to it?!

heres the link

http://www.sachsperformance.com/Sachs-P ... _1512.html

I found a part no. for the turbo gaskets, its now NLA. But surely they're generic for T25s as the turbo flanges are same for all the T25's applications ya?

TBH i need to get the heat sheilds off and then try to see exactly where the blow is coming from before spending monies.

Theres a small oil leak from a pipe below the turbos entering the block above the sump. Along with the diff leak. Birds have done both these leaks in the last 2-3 years ican see.

A pinion oil seal shouldn't leak again that quickly no? Its quite bad but theres probably about 5 litres of oil in total for the diff with all the pipework for the cooler fitted to it.

Clutch wear will be dependent more on the amount of slippage whilst using 'launch control',as opposed to full throttle turbo use with the clutch fully engaged.

So if you can control the 'boy racer' in you, that Saches item should be up to the job.

Just one aspect of running a champagne motor on beer money,I guess!

Did you get the BMW part numbers Simon.

Post them here if you have them and someone might be able to cross them to see who was the manufacturer to go direct?

I meant the clutch cannot take maximum torque so you will have to adapt your driving style so you do not use max torque which is no fun. For a few extra hundred quid just shell it out and get the proper part what's the point in doing otherwise

it slipped in 5th gear on motorway when putting pedal down. Yes it was on max boost. Makes me like it even more, that takes some doing imo.

Pacers been down this route but anyhow

pressure plate 91 47 21 20 622

friction disc 91 47 21 20 623

release bearing 21 51 12 23 366 - this is fitted to a whole load of old skool stuff e9's e12's etc

This. Both Biturbos that I have owned have needed clutches. I tried everything to save shekels but to no avail. At the time , even going in the back door at Sachs worked out no cheaper than BMW :(

I have seen tight wads use 535 and M5 clutch components but 400lbs of torque means that always ends badly and the job needs to be done again. It is definately not a job anybody would want to do twice in a hurry :(

The macau Biturbo I had was allegedly fitted with a Sachs 'racing'sourced clutch and it was dead within 5000km, conveniently just outside the one year warranty window. The replacement clutch was bought from BMW

So is your clutch completely broken or just slipping ?

Presumably when it happened was well on its way out.

Think of it as like getting a new set of tyres all round ....
