Is it fine to DIY respray a front valance because of the surface is different to the rest of the body work?

the only problem with aerosol is that the paint is like water and can run easily as you have no control over how its mixed and it has extra addatives to make it work for aerosol cans

What precautions should I take to stop this from happening?

There is a write up in this months practical classics about how to do good repairs using rattle cans. Or borrow it if someone you know is a regular reader.

Because it has the stone chip(textured finish) you would have to be so heavy handed to get it totally wrong with a rattle can. The textured finish allows you a massive margin of error.

The only problem is that it takes a long time to remove all the old paint due to the different layers you get with stone chip. Once removed, recoat with at least 2 layers of stone chip, then paint with your lazer blue rattle can another 2 coats, then 3 coats of lacquer.

I am lucky that the stone chip is black so that when the stones inevitably chip the diamond black BMW colour its black underneath.

Blitz, done mine with a a rattle can. Rub down valance to get a key, spray with plastic primer.
Spray coulour of choice, then a clear laquer. Not bodyshop quality perhaps, but not bodyshop money either.
Happy with my results.

I'm going to be spraying my m tech 1 front spoiler soon and was planning on using rattle cans from the stealer, does anyone have an idea of how many cans I'll need for the job?

Cheers

best wat is heat the panel up a little so it is worm with a heat gun so the paint dries a little faster and worm the can up a little to make the paint worm (but not to much as the can will explode and paint will be everywhere)
