ive been down that route mate... freshly rebuily 2.7 high comp, then whacked a turbo on... it was lovely for a little while on low boost, but i played with the in car boost adjuster and it went BANG... ... I then thought of buying a 3mm decomp plate to lower compression, but it was too late and spent wasted money on the decomp plate as when it went bang, it ripped the trheads from the block.. !!

Now running a standard 2.5 turbo'd lump... and its all Scwheeeet.. :D

Could it be done by using 325i pistons and not decking the block?Would that give a low enough comp. ratio? Be worth having a chat to Ant....my main concern would be that a turbo works best at high rpm,the eta crank may not be strong enough to take it for long,a 524 deisel crank would be ideal.... winkeye

You can use the 325i block, pistons, rods, eta crank and have a low comp M20B27.

The ETA cranks are not weak, just not as strong as the TD ones, still have YOU ever seen one busted up?

It's been done and works fine, just get as good a block as poss or even get a M20B20 rebored.

Hasn't Ant done one of these for a customer? and built it to last with TD crank so its bomb proof.

Another thread running here about it somewhere.

I wouldn't use those words but your logic seems spot on, 6k is plenty anyway!

I've very rarely seen more than 6k on my datalogs in three years, not that I'm worried about tho as I'm sure most M20's will see 7k occasionally without any problems.

ETA cranks just had bad press for some reason, poss by the owners of all the TD cranks! LOL

I have 2 Turbo 2.7's now, both have Very large Holsets and will provide hours of sideways fun, when least wanted

the "other" one is having a troublesome birth, I think it hates me  all buttoned up now though, more shakedown required tomorrow , slippery when wet ? you betch :thumb:
