Right guys... im in need of a new actuator as the one essex turbo's replaced my old one with is very weak and i cant get it past 6psi... i want 10psi and was at one stage told a -31 actuator is what i needed..however, looking further, its been pointed out to me that -31 actuators open at 15psi !!! what do i need for mine then guys???

If you get yourself a boost control solenoid, you can keep the 6psi actuator and up the boost using the ECU.

Much more stable than an actuator alone and gives you the ability to map your boost :D

Sorry to hijack the post, but how does the boost control solenoid work, do you neeed to add anything else? I'm quite interested in doing this to my car as the ECU has the capability to map the boost. Cheers.

would love to do this but my m/s needs some bits added to make this happen, Ants been waiting on parts for ages and im not enjoying my boost, so im going the new actuator way ! just need to find the right 1.. :D

The solenoid valve will have three ports. To install the solenoid you'd cut (and possibly extend) the signal pipe to the actuator.

Then, you see which two ports on the valve are connected to eachother when there's no volts on the solenoid. You plug the gap in the signal pipe with the two connected ports and, if the solenoid wasn't turned on, you'd drive off as though it wasn't there seeing the same boost as you used to.

However, once you've wired up the solenoid so the ECU can control it, the ECU can start to up the boost.

The ECU will pulse the solenoid so that the boost signal to the actuator is interrupted which prevents the actuator from moving. When the solenoid it powered up, the third port on the valve (which vents to atmosphere) lets air that would be trapped in the actuator capsule out.

All good fun :D

Fair enough Erel, got the boost lust again then? :D

Do you mean the in car boost valve? sold it on e-bay after i blew the 2.7 with it. would 1 of them do the trick?

I'm on the case for this, whats needed is a stronger actuator, no bleed valve can sort the surging issue Erel has

his W/gate is fully open @ 7 psi, so nothing will help short of an uprated unit.

-31 is no good, thats over a bar OPENING pressure, so would offer control in the 18-20 psi range , too high for the stock CR guys.

currntly has a -16 which is for 8psi or so so although weak, its working within its effective range.

trying to split the differance, but not so easy with hybrids due to the flow rates being outside the manufacturers specs.

i found out that ive got a -31 actuator and im only running 5 psi at the moment, and when i had my rs turbo i was only running 10psi most of the time on a -31 actuator, so id say use one of them
