Seen a fair few posts asking the above for a 325i but as yet havent seen an answer.Realize its largeley dependent on how much you pay for the actual turbo itself but a rough figure anyone.Just curious

Theres quite a few to choose from but based on Fuzzy's and Dimmys, new garrets were around £1k.
Obviously used is much cheaper but no garuntee's. For first attempt, stage 1 etc I'd suggest a used one, then upgrade when everything else is sorted out.
A big T3 will surfice for low boost on a stock C/R or over a Bar with a dropped C/R.
T4 and bigger if you want big boost on stock C/R but there are limits.

Costs so far:
2nd hand manifold and turbo (off ebay) - £250.00 (tho suspect turbo needs overhaul).
Intercooler (new off ebay) - £105.00
Pluming for above (new) - £220.00
Uprated head bolts - £65.00
....can see this getting pricey...oh well, would only spend it on beer otherwise!

its not the best thing as its higher compression but still can be turboed. i think trhe compression is 9:7:1 and the later engines are 8:8:1 or something like that

Also there seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether the early ones can be chipped or not.
Any definitave answers on this anyone?

You won't need to worry about chipping if you're doing the conversion properly and fitting an aftermarket mappable ECU

i got no change from a grand for my brand new,non exchange stage 2 garrett t34 with cut back blades and a 360 degree bearing but that was with extra bits and bobs such as a couple of new samco hoses etc.the turbo on its own was just under £800.i would never buy a second hand turbo as my experiences have found them to be a false economy resulting in paying out for replacements within months.
