Does anyone know the number of splines, or specifications/dimension of splines on the e36/46 rack and the e30 steering column?

Column splines are different to rack end, I gave up looking for something that would fit other than the original linkage
E36 column splines are the same as the rack end though

Column isn't the big issue.. I need a smaller lower UJ!

I may have a go at 're profiling' the standard oneDanThe wrote:Grinder?

Arn't the BTB manifolds supposed to clear the coupling.
They start to sound even more expensive, if they can't even manage that
Is it an e36 rack? I still thought they were advertising as clearing them though...

Personally, I'm quite fond of my steering column being in contact with the steering coupling!Jhonno wrote:Column to coupling contact is low on my list of fun things..Theo325 wrote:Pourquoi?Jhonno wrote:Column isn't the big issue.. I need a smaller lower UJ!

Manifold to coupling.
It catches the lower UJ... If i'd have been going faster the other day I wouldn't have an e30 to drive right now imo..
I am not gonna drive the 'Ring like it is atm, fuck that for a game of spoons

AKG Motorsport sell Group N spec rubber ones for 24v swaps.. I am going to invest I think.
Still not comfortable with the gap to the coupling though, so will mod/replace also

They clear.. But its tight, and turns out the engine moves enough on fast/hard left handers, particularly if the arse comes out, to contact and lock up the steering..Jon_Bmw wrote:Arn't the BTB manifolds supposed to clear the coupling. They start to sound even more expensive, if they can't even manage that

for the money that the btb costs you would think that this would not happen.

About 5mm max.. I can't move my engine by hand, but it moves enough to hit it and it has dented the manifold even!

Move the column where it comes through the bulkhead.

How would one go about that? Sounds rather extreme..

Make up an offset bracket for where it comes through/is bolted to the bulkhead, and a little bit of pedal bending and respacering. Clutch master rod bolts to the other side of the pedal from normal, as well.
Move the standard brake servo outwards in a similar way.

i've fitted a short section of 1.5"x1.5"x1/4" angle to the top stud of my engine o/s mount, with a cut-down spare engine mount rubber bolted to it - facing the chassis rail. not elegant but there's a mm or so clearance so no extra vibration at idle but when i really lean on it, the rubber on the extra mount pushes against the chassis rail and stops the engine moving any further.
crude but effective and if it means i can make a hard brake/corner if i need to (not just pushing-on but in an emergency) then it's a compromise i'm willing to have. never had any contact since then, even on the 'ring with sticky tyres, bouncing over the kerbs with some force

Jhonno, I have some nice poly mounts here.. £25?
They cured the same problem for me until I found a way around it with some butchering

Bollocks to this 24v scrap!
