not sure what it's off jim, i'm sure dips may shed some light on it.Jimbob wrote:What rad is that e30 one?glenn wrote:was going to use an extra large e30 radiator that dips supplied but the top outlet was up against the nearside distributor, so we're now using the e32 radiator, so the front chassis legs have had to be modified to accommodate it.
it's nearly twice as thick and goes about 5" below a std e30 rad.
i'm guessing it holds about twice the coolant a std e30 rad holds

engine mountings, all four downpipes, the bulkhead where the servo sits has had to be moved about 3" to the nearside to miss the inlet manifold.whipsey wrote:looks good i'm glad someones actually doing what i've been on about for a while looks like i'm getting the welder out this week to start sorting out my shell keep up the good work has much had to be fabricated for this as i'm kinda jumping in at the deep end here?
pretty much all the usual things you would expect.

going for a engine and gearbox dummy-fit this weekend while we wait for parts to come from the 'fatherland'.one of the parts i got was inlet manifold gaskets, Ԛ£75(+vat) each, and there's 4 of them
engine/ box has to be fitted together and has to go in from underneath.
there's not enough room to tilt the engine enough to put the box on seperatly. the small shape of the tunnel and the large shape of the bell-housing mean's the gearbox cannot be withdrawn far enough off the clutch, without fouling on the tunnel

Just a quick question: I'm chuckin' in a 2.5 lump in my 318, is it just plug and play your does some of the car loom go with the engine loom?
Cheer's
Jon
You will need to change the coding plug on the clocks to accept the new engine. (as well as a whole host of other bits)

dummy-fitted the whole lot back onto car this evening.
only took about an hour and a half to fit gearbox to the engine, mount it on the crossmember, lift the car out of the way, position the engine where we wanted it, then brought the car back over the engine/box. then lowered the car to the desired height onto axle stands, then lifted the engine/box up into the engine bay. the gearbox fits surprisingly well into the tunnel.
tomorrow i'll make the gearbox mounting and shorten the gear linkage.
oh!... and take some more pics.

I wish you would set up a production line of these. I know a lot of the fun in owning a conversion is being unique but... imagine a team of E30 V12s beating up Run what you Brung at drag strips all over the country
edit: What will the power to weight be when you're done?

Whats the torque?
Glenn isnt your V8 400?
Low stress engine.Nice
BTW ,nice one glenn for doing another conversion, many more pics please
It has to be said Glenn - you are the man.. could do with someone as productive as you around my workshop/garage/tarmac! I have a 320i track car and a spare M30 3.5 that is to evenutally find its way into the 320... thats got to be an afternoons job for someone of your talent... if you get bored of the v12 (IF thats even possible) then you know you can always come help me with that and my m535i thats going back on the road...
do you think its possible and fairly easy to do a similar conversion to an e28 (must be - EVEN bigger bonnet still).. I would LOVE to have a HUGE lazy slacker german V12 in my M535i for the 'ring or even a less lazy and more 'athletic' M5 v8 in there to do some show stopping at the pod.. and to shut up my mates who like to point out its an M5..... 35 and that his 300bhp mr2 turbo is much faster, or my other mates chavette AND his corsa are quicker (BLOODY 160bhp VAUXHALL XE ENGINES ON R1'S!!)...
How much is it costing to do the conversion with the V12 and would my newly re-installed LSD handle it.. because that was a sod to lift into place with nothing but my scrawny arms! LOL
Sorry for the long post, its late im bored and have much to say! LOL
