I'm ashamed to say I'm genuinely scared of it in the wet. I let my mate have a go in it last weekend and the roads were damp, I was bricking it in the passenger seat.

He's got a 328i and was impressed with the poke of the same lump in an E30.

2nd gear at 40mph and give it the beans and it lights the rears up no problem

It would be interesting to compare S50 and M50 side by side, as I know the S50 had no bother in lighting up the rears in 2nd and even 3rd in the wet

Got a silly little fault at the moment which has me scratching my head.

Seems to have a very slight misfire when only just touching the throttle. Last weekend when I drove the car last it did it a couple of times when pulling out of junctions in a sensible fashion, you could hear it was not running on all cylinders. Give it a bit more squirt and it catches and performs as normal.

Same situation when cruising on very light throttle, you get a bit of a jerk.

Any inspiration here guys?

I was thinking throttle position switch but don't want to randomly go through the engine bay replacing crap for the sake of it. The cam sensor is new and the crank sensor was replaced for a good working one.

Test it with a multimeter and you don't have to change anything just to verify a fault with the throttle switch.

Check for slight air leaks too.

I'm pretty confident it is not an air leak problem as I was pretty anal when it came to re-fitting the inlet manifold after having the injectors cleaned. The crankcase breather pipe is a pretty snug fit.

It is defo not firing on all cylinders when you pull away.

Bloody MOT booked for tomorrow so will see what adventures come my way.

Dropped the car off for MOT this morning.

Damn thing started misfiring good n proper once it was warmed up. Sounded like a bloody impreza on occasions, so god knows how it will pass an emissions test.

Now why do I find myself looking at Audi S2 Avants on Pistonheads........

No advisories at all mate.

It still misfired like a coont after I picked it up, so god knows how it passed. The garage I took it to belongs to a neighbour, but they don't actually do the test themselves, they take it to the local council testing station, so it must have behaved or they fell for the retro charms

Drove the car home from work tonight and it is misfiring badly, sounds like a bloody scooby (cack). Hopefully it is a duff coil pack. I'm pretty certain it isn't anything like an air leak.

Had a slight hesitation/missfire on the M3 too lee, would idle fine until it got hot then missfire and it would hesitate if you gave it a bootfull from part throttle, seem to have sorted it now though but ive fitted the correct five bar fuel pump, re shimmed the tappets and gapped the plugs correctly so not sure which one was causing the problems.

Also fitted a new pas pump to stop the whining but its as bad as ever so ive still got the hump with it, at a loss to that one, will have to start a thread if i cant find an answer soon.

My PAS pump is a bit noisy.

Going to check the vacum hose is still connected to the FPR too just incase it is something daft like that. Will check the plugs too of course.

Hope it is something daft as I lose patience with identifying electrical problems and there will be an Audi sat on the drive

This afternoon after some mig weld splatter practice, I decided to fit the coils I got from Dez. Checked all the plugs whilst I was there, all plugs showing an even colour and gaps.

It has improved matters slightly, but the misfire is still there. I'm beginning to think this is more fuel related.

I can't vouch for the quality of the pump. Every time I put the ignition on, the pump is heard to prime for a few seconds. It fires up no dramas and ticks over without any dramas. The symptoms are that it splutters with an obvious misfire (sounds like an scooby) with light throttle open, if you give it a bit more beans it seems to clear and go OK.

I don't think it is giving full beans all the time. If you floor it then you get mixed results of sometimes it ripping your face off and sometimes a mediocre bit of performance.

Is it worth investigating the throttle position switch/sensor?

Should I look at swapping the fuel pump?

Any other nuggets of wisdom?

I'd not really driven the car for nearly 2 months and the brief test run it had made me smile, I gave it some beans once and it really felt bloody quick after driving a 16v Golf for the last 2 months.
