Vauxhall engines *Ducks for cover*
Moderator: martauto
after reading a couple of articles last night, does anyone know if a carlton gsi engine would fit into an e30?
I know its a case of anything is possible with the right amount of work but I'm not exactly skilled to the level of Fred Dibnah in these matters and wondered how much work would be involved?
Cheers

Just find a roadworthy carlton GSi and drive it.
A friend of mine had a really nice (immaculate), last of the line k-plate 24v. He bought it with an autobox fault, I rember begging him at the time to swap to manual, he spent £1200 (more than he paid for car) to have the autobox re built, after this it was never right, car went back to trans specialist 4 or 5 times, before he got fed up and got rid - lost loads of money.dave525 wrote:fozzymandeus wrote:Just find a roadworthy carlton GSi and drive it.ho ho,when did you last see one
Nice car to drive though (when it was working).
As for engine swap, i'd sooner drop an m50, or even better m52b28 in, at least its tried and tested - and you won't go to hell!!!

all heavy old boat anchors with not much power and little in the way of aftermarket power increases too.
Either toss another BMW mill in there or go jap turbo - the tuning possiblities are only restrained by your budget

errr 24v cossie lump will see 300bhp with some tuning.E30BeemerLad wrote:all heavy old boat anchors with not much power and little in the way of aftermarket power increases too.

quite a bit of tuning i would have thought for a 100bhp or 50% power increase on a N/A engine, plus it's still a heavy old slug of a cologne V6 with a fancy head
its still a good reliable power source, some of the TVR boys mod them instead of the normal rover v8's.E30BeemerLad wrote:quite a bit of tuning i would have thought for a 100bhp or 50% power increase on a N/A engine, plus it's still a heavy old slug of a cologne V6 with a fancy head

I agree, they make a lot of sense for a 2.8 Capri owner in particular
the v6 will turbo too, again a common capri mod.fuzzy wrote:funny. if only it wasnt so truemac325i wrote:fuzzy wrote:if you enjoy costly, regular rebuilds theres only one to consider with cheap easy future power increases.
its not just about bhp, torque will be good from v6.
now that really is a daft ideam-dtech wrote:for 200bhp, id go for cosworth 24v from granada.
those weren't even any good when brand new, not when compared to other V6s available. the later duratec V6 is very nice indeed but not that old heap. if i had a 2.8 capri... maybe. useless for anything else.
the carlton lump is actually a nice engine. but when you can just put a 535i lump in for less hassle and more power you have to ask why you'd want to go to the bother.
