nice one, have been looking at jaymic's manifold. there a wicked company, used them for all my parts. there not sure if it will fit the e30 tho and the number 1 pipe did look abit in the way lol.

Fritz bits also dont know if there manifold will fit. the only way they can be sure is to try it on the car but i cant get it down there.

So are you running 2.5" pipe all the way for the exhaust? are u running a center box or straight through? im not sure weather to run 2 or 2.5" piping i keep getting told that 2" will be better. Also what kind of power and torque figures are u running mate? sorry for all the questions lol.

The manifold is 2 1/4" which slides nicely inside the 2.5" system. Yes it is 2.5" all the way running through a large centre box. I was then worried about regaining some back pressure due to torque loss so I cut down a over axle bend and used a 45 degree and a 30 degree to route it around the diff housing. Then it goes into a large rear silencer. Its not to disimilar to an e30 back end.
To be honest I don't know if that's the best setup and I haven't had it on the rollers yet. I actually was thinking of going the 2" route, don't tell the wife but I want to put in a wilder motor eventually so I didn't want to have redo the exhaust again, but it certainly goes well enough for now. Its also quite quiet as I can only hear the Weber's (orgasmic)when driving.

The e21 dogleg box makes quite a bit of difference to the drive.

Mark

Sounds wicked mate. i really cant wait now to here those dellorto's.

how does the jaymic manifold sit in the engine bay. ive not seen any pics of it bolted to a car. just wondering if it will clear the stearing column in the e30 depending on how different it is to the 02.

one final question.......whats the fuel consumption like? I imagine its abit shocking!

Its bloody tight in the 2002 i haven't got any pics so far. I'll try and sort some...

....looking at you pics of the empty engine bay i reckon the Jaymic manifold will fly in. However I would recommend having a look at the Fritz bits one just because of the sparkplug issue. Its a right pain in the arse!!

cool mate, a pic would be awesome if u can get one. just need to know where the steering column is and where the exhaust sits in relation to the engine.

Ive asked fritz bits about them before, its a copy of the 2002 alpina manifold. need to find out if an 02 system will fit, they want my car to try it or make one for an m10 powered e30.

Do 318i (e30) cyclinder head fit all m10 engines including e21 320i 2002 etc etc

cheers

I'm just trying to sell one at the moment....

Oh and does any one have a link to fritz bits website?
Thanks

The 318i heads do physically fit all m10's but it depends what pistons are being used mate. I had to take some off the piano top 2002tii pistons i had to make the combination work.

As far as i know the e30 318i head is a good upgrade for the 2002 boys as its got the biggest valves of all the m10 heads.

http://www.fritzsbits.co.uk/ theres the link for them mate. they dont respond to fast to email.

I'll get them hosted later then post them on here.

Gwyn, no probs at all mate.

Mark, thanks very much indeed. i see what you mean about that number 1 pipe. Looks worse than i thought, can you get to the spark plugs to change them?
Looks like it'll be touch and go weather it will fit an e30 and wrap around the steering column in the same way.

Awesome looking 02 mate, I want one bad. gutted you got rid of your is

You can get to the plugs. BUT you have to have wiggly extension and a small plug socket. Otherwise your fooked!!

Hey Mark, I like your 02, any plans for it? I love the 2002's, a tii is next on my purchase list. I want to do a cranky M10 for it, something like a schrick 304 cam with individual throttle bodies and 10.5:1 compression. I also want to do the wide arches.

Mark, thanks again mate, I think ill have another word with jaymic about their manifold. They've been awesome with me so far so no doubt they'll be able to sort something out.

Thanks Russ, Im aiming for about 150bhp I think. Its not crazy power but it should be cool and sound awesome with those carbs. Ive been told I may get that at the wheels but ill have to see. Whatever it puts out it will be nice as the engines been fully rebuilt with all new parts pretty much and the cars had new bushes, new brakes etc..

M10man, That's what I want to do eventually, I'm waiting for the right one to come up second hand. If you add an extreme valve head it should be good for 180bhp while keeping the torque. Did you know the works Alpina cars had the F2 16valve heads on which gave 240bhp I think 210bhp is about the limit for the 8valve M10 engines but its all at about 9000rpm with no torque. Both of them are in Ireland now I believe. Where in Oz are you mate? as we are planning the big emigrate thing as soon as I pull my finger out my arse and stop mucking around with BMW's!!(Long wait me thinks)

Si, I reckon you'll probably see between 140-150bhp at the flywheel mate. Nothing more with that cam. Fay at Jaymic is a top lass, Mike macartney's daughter who wrote the '02 restoration guide'. They get those manifolds made as a one off that's why they are so bloody expensive. With that in mind you might get one where the no 1 pipe had been welded without such a wicked angle thus more room for the plugs!! Also a very thick Manifold gasket helps.

yeah both fay and robbert at jaymic have been so much help with my project. so so helpful. Good call about the manifold, will have to ask if it can be made slightly different maybe.

150 would be nice, is gonna just be a nice fun car to drive i think

Mark, I am in Northern NSW, about 2 hours drive south of Brisbane. Lots of nice windy country roads. I did't know Alpina had a 16 valve head. I know Schnitzer have one, I have been tempted to buy one, but at US$8000 a pop I have hesitated. I also wonder at how I would go sourcing parts for it easily. I have been on the look out for a while for the Alpina 4 throttle body set-up they had on the A4S (ala 185hp) but I cannot find one. I may have to make up a custom individual throttle body set-up. Do you know of anyone who does a 4 throttle body set-up for the M10?

M10Man have you had a look at these guys: http://www.bavariacars.com.au/article/?id=29

They stock all the performance / racing parts for M10/M12s and have a background building psychotic 2002s. If you check their site out, they did a heap of 160+ HP N/A 2002s and a couple of 350+hp 2002 turbos and 318is.

By the way, do you have MSN or anything? Im just up in brisbane, and I'd love to pick your brain over some M10 matters if thats ok.

Not yet, the engine is good to go now tho.

Si,

Good call on the socks best flow for dcoe's.

I had mine on the rollers and it gave 143bhp at the fly and 185nm torque.

One thing he did say was I was losing alot of power running short Ram pipes and shallow filters. I was dubious, but after driving it home and then ditching the filters and fitting long Ram pipes. Fook me the car's transformed :D . Suddenly its feels much lighter and spins up much quicker and crisper. I wish I could afford to get it back on the rollers!!!

Ask Glen with his M5 engined beast he was having trouble catching me round the race circuit Saturday winkeye plus there's a few 325i's, modded 205gti's, Loltus elises and a nissan 200sx that were passed

Get it sorted mate you'll love it.

Regards

Mark

yes mark,
there wasn't much there on saturday that gave me anything to worry about. but your car did take a bit of catching,
when i eventually caught mark, i thought it was a robin reliant in disguise as there only ever seemed to be three wheels on the track.
i should of had a better look at your car mark to see if i could find the nitrous bottles
respect to you mate.

With regards to the ram pipes, the longer they are, the better. And its not really power you gain, but low down torque. Longer ones will really transform your engine.

BTW I had 100mm ones on my TB'd XE

Hi Guys

Iam also building a fast m10 for an e21 race car, I picked up a genuine NOS BMW mortorsport big valve head, I got a lot of stuff from the USA billet rocker arms, 316 cam, light weight valves, springs, caps. I still have to source a o2 tii forged crank, & spec the forged pistons, but i do have a set of pauter rods S/H that wiegh less than half a standard rod.

My sister lices in the states so she bring the parts home at christmas.

But i do have a m10 engine converet to a 2.3 16v (in bits) using s14 parts that i might sell, and a set of slide throttle bodies as I cannot use them for my grp 1 race car as i am stuck with K-jet and a twin webber manifold.

Also in the USA Stahl sell a header kit (U-weld) that you may be able to modify as a staring pont

Roughly how much does it cost to get an M10 up to around the 140-150bhp mark, got a rather healthy sounding M10 1.8 carb in my E21 and starting to think about tuning this rather that putting a 6cyl in it.
