cheap. worth it. don't get caught up in a few bhp here and there - a chip isn't about peak power boost. it's drivability. the power will come in a bit earlier. usually you get a few extra rpms on the limit which is nice also as it gets you to 62 in 2nd gear
E46 M3 CSL but dreaming of another E30.
nice point - 58mph in 2nd really does my head in. When you say cheap what are we talking? Can I fit it with my limited electronic skills? Do you know any prefered suppliers? Thanks Alex
Im a two car man. Shame my bike gets used more.Damn the MOT!
fitting is easy for all but the completely inept
4x10mm nuts hold the ecu under the dash, drivers side. a few torx bits and some bend over metal tabs hold the cover on. Chip is easily identifiable, 28pins and pushed in to a socket, usually with a silver label on it. Ease it out very gently with a flat-blade screwdriver - take your time with it working one end then the nexxt, and make a note of which way around the chip goes. there is a notch at one end of the chip. then just take the new chip and ensure the pins line up. it takes a little time to ensure all the pins are lined up before pushing it in firmly. again, take your time with it.
A common supplier on the zone is evo-s - you can click the Evolve link at the top of the site. There's also a guy called Jayson from "chippped uk" who sells them. I think BBR and Superchips also have offerings.
