yeah still no further i a bit lost with it.
Also not sure what to do about the gap in the gear linkage were it meets the shifter.
Also not sure exactly what to do with the props i got one of the 5 series and one of the 318is just dont know were and what needs cutting.

I cut off the drive flange from both ( gearbox end ) and welded on the 5 series bit to the rest of the e30 bit. Make sure the length is correct before cutting the e30 one especially the front section from the gearbox to the prop centre bearing because that section is non adjustable.beefy wrote:yeah still no further i a bit lost with it.

My gear linkage was the perfect length, but thats because mines a dogleg box with a pressed steel gear stick mount. Pure luck rather than judgment.

so with the prop its only the very fronts that need to be cut and you only use a small bit of the 5 prop onto the e30 prop. And make sure the e30 centre bearing lines up with the holes in the car floor.
Its not the length of the gear linkage thats the prob its were the linkage meets the shifter you know that pin on the end of the linkage were the plastic bush of the shifter goes through and you put the yellow plastic washers go on and the circlip thing goes on there is about a 5mm gap each side. Is this normal because i dont think it is. Its either ive got the linkage the wrong way round ie gearbox end on shifter end but either way its still not right. Maybe pics will help.

i think there was a revision on the linkage (knuckle) on the gearbox. they were wearing so it was changed and made wider. you might have an old knuckle joint with a newer linkage, maybe! pics would help!

i got a single temp courtesy of johnl320.
I just have a few questions about the wiring of it.
The fan pulls 8 amps i have a 30 amp will this be ok, and is it a 10 amp fuse i will need to fit between the fan and the relay.
Brianmoore do you have any suggestions regarding the engine not stopping problem.

Correct, and almost certainly. Buy a new joint to go on the gearbox shift rod.gareth wrote:i think there was a revision on the linkage (knuckle) on the gearbox. they were wearing so it was changed and made wider. you might have an old knuckle joint with a newer linkage, maybe! pics would help!

8A doesn't sound a lot for a fan. My (BMW 5 series aircon) one draws around 20A.beefy wrote:i got a single temp courtesy of johnl320.

You have a 30A what?
Fuse will need to be 15A or even 20A, to deal with the starting current of the motor.

30A relay is more than adequate.
1.0mm2 or 1.5mm2 sounds about right.

brian, a computer tip for you... hold down ALT and type 0178 to get this: ²
1.0mm² or 1.2mm²
0181 = µ
0176 = °
0216 = ÃËa

hehe, i know (now knew) something you don't! that'll be a first!

think i may be a bit closer to sorting this engine not stopping problem.
I get a circuit between the green ignition wire and the blue altenator wire. But when i unplug the obc control module it breaks the circuit. The plug i unplug is the 4 pin one with green, green/red, brown and brown/yellow.
It was only after i fitted the obc that the problem started.
Is the control module the fault or is it something else?

Now you tell us!beefy wrote:It was only after i fitted the obc that the problem started.
Drove the car for the first time today and there is a few probs with it.
The clutch is slipping i think this only because when i drive with my foot only resting on the pedal because the biting point is so high. Does it mean the clutch is on its way out. It did seem ok in the e34 tho. Could it not be bleed right or does that cause the opposite problem with the bite being low and the pedal light as it is really heavy now.
Oil leak where sump meets bell housing could this be the cause of the problem with the clutch? Not sure how to tell if it is engine oil or clutch fluid.
Exhaust blowing a bit which is easy fixed.
Because of these problems i didnt drive the car much and didnt really get the power down. But you can tell its there very torquey i tried pulling off in 4th to check the clutch and it was happy to do so i had to pull off in 5th to stall it.

Oil on the cluctch friction plate could easily cause the clutch to slip.
My first check would be the tightness of the sump to block bolts, it can cause oil to get into the clutch housing.
E30s with M30 engines are a bit of an arse to bleed the coolant on, just make sure you get the expansion tank as high as possible and regularly chack what comes out of the bleed screw on the thermostat housing by cracking off the bleed screw regularly. Once a stwady stream with no fizzy bubbles comes out of there, the heater blows hot and the temperature guage is behaving then all should be good!

Hello people,
Put the M30 engine my E30 the other weekend, (cheers for the mounts beefy, perfect, will get pictures up soon) just got a quick question about the AFM, the box with AFM embossed on it separate to the engine will i need this as i left it in the donor car which is now long gone
if i do need this does it just plug into some of the extra wires by the ECU? Also do i need the connecters by the ECU wiring as there are quite a few plugs with no where to go!?!?
Cheers for your help,
Shaun.

If its the AFM your talking about, yes you do need it! The air box (that has the filter in it) you can do without just purchace a pod air filter for now.
I too am interested in what all the plugs around the ecu plug is for, my engine was auto and I'm using the auto wiring harness, so I guess it complicates things abit more.
Anyone got a pin out for the c101 plug for the 89 e34 535i auto engine harness?

Cheers for the reply, but it's all done now and on the road
As for the plugs, none of them i needed so just tied them up ad hid them away, just needed to live up wires for ecu and fuel pump which i put on a separate switch, not too mch to change at all.
Will get round to putting some pictures up one of these days....
