I've never had my M52 with the stock manifold fitted so was never able to compare the before & after. I remember Omi wasn't too enthusiastic about the M50 inlet after he did the swap, he felt it lost a fair bit of bottom end.

Where do you notice the difference?

I've also come to the conclusion that my idle control valve has had it :chuckle:
Rad bled up ok?
Yeah it seems to have done. I left the heaters on while i took it for a drive and it didnt even go much above the 1/4 mark! That rad is actually bigger than the oem 328i aircon spec rad - its thicker!

Its a bit more lively at the top of the rev range and i have lost a little bit of torque. But its lagging abit between gear changes and the idle isn't perfect so i think the idle control valve is sticking. (despite being cleaned before being fitted)

how is it running now Paul ? when i changed the manifold on the Mrs e36 for an m50 one she also noticed less low end torque . i found it much better above 4000 rpm though :D

Its not running too badly at all to be honest. I think it is getting better too. But yeah above 4k and its pretty awesome!

I've still got your box of pipe bits and pieces here too btw. Give me a shout if you want me to drop it round or if you want me to hang onto it until the rolling road meet.

Yeah it will be pretty interesting considering how good the results were before the manifold! I've got a beautiful bit of stainless now for my fuel rail bracket too - my dad made it for me :D

What was the inlet rubber boot you said to me too? e36 325i?

Cook: what tutorial or guid or what ever did you use when doing the m50 manifold swap? I have one to go onto my engine as well once I get dropped into the touring.

Its very easy to do tbh. Although i found i couldnt use an m50 throttle becuase the throttle cable kept falling out - despite it being fine when it was attached to the m50 engine when it was in the e30 :screwy:

Thanks, I'll bookmark that for future reference so! Looks to be better than any others I've seen so far. I have a E34 525 throttle cable on my list of things to get though?

Yeah, its a simple but good quide :D The throttle cable is fine, its the throttle itself that was the problem due to the design of it.

I'll have to look into it and hold of getting it bored out as well then. I'm still weeks if not months away from putting the engine in, never mind doing the m50 swap (want to get it running 1st before doing more work).

I love my headunit :D
Andy is up north atm, but yeah we were local boyos. As you can tell from my location im from torquay. Are you taking you're b28 to the bmw rolling road day that has been organised in january- total bmw magazine will be doing a feature :D

You might want to resize your avatar a tad too, tis rather large :chuckle:

haha ! I did not check my avatar after adding it !!!
now changed ...

The only thing about that headunit is - I have not worked out how to turn down the brightness yet and at night the car lights up inside !!!. I just push the button for the face to flip down until I can be bothered to download a user manual and have a proper look ! LAZZZZZZZY.

I know nothing of this rolling road day ?!
My car might just be built by then but I doubt I will take it if its early in January (awaiting a flywheel and then need to fab my exhaust manifolds), Oh and uuuurm paint it ! I could take it as a multicoloured E30 but would rather wait in all honesty !

This one - http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=183477

There is an option which dims the lights on the stereo when you turn your car lights on. if i remember correctly you have the ignition / engine on, turn the stereo off and press and hold function (i think!) then go through the options until you find dimmer and turn it on :thumb:

Why not come along anyway even if the car isnt ready? It should be quite a good day :D

Just spoke to a friend from further down who is going too so ideal ! Look forward to it and just have to get a move on with my machine and see I suppose...

I'm there

its a bit of a old convo but.

There jap cars are fine. but people dont look after them.
i was running a 350bhp s13 200sx for about a 2 years.
Engine rebuild every 6 months.
oil flush, oil, oil filter, plugs, about every 4 month
ya gotta think the s13 is only a 1.8 with a fair size turbo

and useing it at pod on there drift days.
what are at the start and end of every month.
you can run in to a right part's list. £££££'s.

My mates s13 isnt much different. Hes estatic that his norris designs built engine has seen 7k miles :chuckle:

I'm more and more tempted to keep mine anyway, but i have initially sorted out a photoshoot with an s14a 200sx and a little trip in it.

All the bushes are only year old on this car and they are all direct from bmw, and to be honest the car isnt driven that hard. So the bushes should be ok. Once the weather has bucked up i think im going to need to jack it up again and inspect everything... again

Long story short, its sat outside my house after a fuel leak 2 weeks ago and hasn't moved. Battery has now died from being sat for so long and trying to crank it over to see if the fuel pipes are the right way around. It now obviously won't start and i have a strong dislike of working in the cold at this time of year. I have also noticed that one of the rear wheels has more camber than the other side :? All bushes are from bmw and about a year old :?

After a drift day today im tempted to get a skyline or a 200sx, i need boost

So today i've began stripping down the old m50b25. I've always wanted to strip and rebuild and engine so i may aswell make the most of it and build a 3.0/3.2 engine :D. So this is what i started with - my old m50, on its side, no sump, no oil filter housing, no alternator, no power steering pump, no exhaust and alot of the loom missing.

Image

So there i was happily removing the coil packs and the spark plugs when i got to the third cylinder and quite a bit of water came out and i was greeted with this spark plug...

Image
Nice :?

The were all the plugs as they came out (front of the engine on the right)

Image

After a while i was left with this...
Image

After a bit more spannering...
Image

Then voila! One head off a block...

Image

I'll give a guess which cylinder that spark plug belonged to!

Image

I took a quick ganders at the head gasket and it looks fine, and the engine never overheated when it was in my possesion.

thats a sludgy mess in there indeed. what was the cause?

im thinking on the same lines as you with a 3.0 or 3.2 in the future.

Im not sure of the cause, like i said the head gasket looked ok, but i'll have a proper look when its not so dark! I can't imagine that all of that is from moisture and surely all the other cylinders would be the same if it was from moisture.

Edit: just had a thought, it was stored outside for a while until it was moved to the garage, but it was covered up - still a possibility though i suppose.
