Got a pair of adjusters for the front struts from Compbrake.
Just got to order some springs from Faulkners this week then ill pass the parts onto my mate to weld up for me.
Also got the Breyton front skirt now.
its in good condition but paintwork is horrendous(and wrong colour anyway) so ill get on with rubbing that down so I can get it painted somewhere soon.
Decided to stick the 316 badge back on for the comedy factor....already shown a 350z driver what a 316i can do winkeye

Those Brocks are nice, but a little bit more low is needed then they will look rude.

Nice one tony, you may need to bore out the centre hole on the top hat. I had to on the one I got from rally design - think 14mm.

What spring rates are you planning?

I'm using 375Ibs on the front and 550Ibs on the rear. The e30 feels pretty good for the road. Saying that, you do really need to avoid crap roads because you, know about it on badly surfaced ones.

Thanks for the tip regarding the tophat hole mate, good to be prepared :D
Are 375lb springs not a bit soft for daily driving?
Been chatting with BadDave and based on his advice id planned on around 500lb front?
Hi Tony,
I'm guessing, that the coilovers are intended for the M5X powered touring?

I currently use "tweaked" GAZ adjustable inserts with 6" long 600Lb/in springs (with some 4Lb helpers for the MOT)on the front of the touring with a good old M20 plonked under the bonnet.

The suspension is rather stiff and not ideally suited to normal daily driving.
I have previously tried 450LB and 550Lb fronts as well.
IMO 450LB are best left to those with an M40 or M42 as they are too soft for the 6 pot lumps.
If you're planning on using the car for normal day to day driving, then you'd probably be looking somewhere around the 500LB - 550LB/in rate.Maybe even go 7" long and apply preload as necessary.

To be honest it doesn't feel too soft but I'm sure you could go stiffer. However even on my springs if you get a bad section of road its pretty unpleasant.

My issue is that the car is too low (my fault, I know) and I had the sump guard hit a selection of catseyes the other day and need bigger wheels.

Took the wheel with the flatspot into local tyre place yesterday to see how out of shape it was.
Turns out its not actually that bad and only required a 20g weight(before attempting to remove the flatspot).
The tyre guy seemed confident he could get the flatspot out easilly using some heat and rubber hammer.
Anyway tyre removed and 10 mins later it was done.
Back on the balancer and still 20g weight needed.
Tyre back on and balanced up,job done.
Got the tracking redone while I was there which was spot on.
Ive removed the rear mudflaps too.
Also started getting the Breyton front spoiler ready to be painted which will hopefully be done in the next week or so.

Just had my first breakdown since doing the swap.
Mrs was out shopping and phoned me on way home to say temp gauge was creeping towards the Red 8O
Anyway popped down to meet her and thankfully was just down to a blown fuse, thank god for that!
Nothing more to update really except im going to get some wider tyres for the front wheels as there is too much stretch currently.
Also got a pair of adjustable rear spring perches which ill have a go at fitting when I fit the adjustable rear beam.
MOT looming in a few weeks too which will be fun :D

Just re-read a few posts properly, FYI I am using 450lb front springs on my track car, alloy block M52, it could do with being slightly stiffer for track, but its literally just about tolerable for road use so they are staying for now.

This reminds me of my Touring, very nice chap.
I wouldn't have thought that a flat spot like that would give much vibration?

So you think I should go no more than 450lb then?
Will be ordering them sometime this week so need to make a decision soon :D

Cheers Dan.
Wheel gives no vibration since having the flatspot removed.
Only needed a 20g weight with the flatspot and still the same without it.
Tyre stretch is ridiculous on the front wheels though as the whole outer lip is exposed so I plan on trying some 215`s on soon as ive got the money spare.

If I were you id buy stiffer springs to start with, you should be able to sell them easier than softer springs if you need to

Iv 440lbs 6" rear spring in my touring and spax adjustable shocks, feels too soft and still rubs so im planing on going for 600lbs 5" spring

Ive got a pair of 450lb rear springs and pair of adjusters I bought off Ebay.
Only cost £20 quid plus postage so worth it for the adjusters alone really.
Untill I trial fit them I have no idea how its going to be so may well have to gety some different springs yet.

Well after removing the rear mudflaps a few weeks ago I discovered this little mess....

As its been off the road for a couple of weeks I finally got round to fitting the new rear beam....

Had the welding done last weekend.
Rotten section chopped out and and new patched back in.
Also took it in for 4 wheel alignment during htw week, drives lovely again now.
MOT booked for this Monday so will see how it gets on :D

Image

Oh and decided to get a cheap refurb on the Brocks as a couple of them had kerbing and the polished rims were pretty heaavilly scratched.
These will be sold with/after the car is sold so did need doing really.

Would prefer a full donor car for obvious reasons ie air con fan/rad/box etc and a low mile nikasil replacement would be a plus point!

What will it take to persuade you then?24hrs in Mikeys company perhaps? :chuckle:
