been playing as you do with a new car

Seems alot quicker than i would expect, faster than any other m40 donk ive driven

0-60 run, note the immense tyre squeel as i pull away in first, this was shifting gear manually as it changes at 4800rpm in D
going to try new fluid and filter.

it would leave my 316i compact for dead, i thought it would be the opposite

click the black square

Ideally it needs an m52

Nice work there Alex, car well saved

You going to tidy the bumper scuffs yourself or is that a job at a later date for the painter?

Spend an hour or so on it today, firstly washed it so it was looking nice again, then decided to have a play about with the front wing, the bodyshop guy said i needed to pry it out a bit and put the screw in that go behind the wing as the door was catching it, however tried this with no luck, i managed to get it so it doesnt catch the door but it looks a right mess, i would say this is why you dont mess about with pattern parts however the painter said the footwell has taken a bit of impact making the door a challange tofit however now its fitted i belive the door sits that tiny bit further forward than where it should fit.

I'am going to try a gen bmw wing and see where i get as i cant leave it as it is as everything else is spot on.

Door strips all fitted too. ive had twp days off work now and plan was to get it all polished fit wing properly, fit dealer plates, IS lip and get fogs fitted however i somehow got caught up in finishing with the Girlfriend

Anyway a few piccys

Is the door in the correct place at the back edge? If its the same there then could you not shim the hinges to adjust the fitment?

to be honest, i recon the door needs to go down????

but then if the door went down it wouldnt be ligned up with the back door and the back door is absolutly spot on with the gap

The joys of being 21, had a few quotes for modified insurance for when i turn 21 in Feb with 4 years no claims

One quote was £1500, one £1200 and one £1050 considering i'am paying £1100 for a 316i compact now i'am more than willing to pay it.

So Spec is as follows.

M20b25 engine
320i Gearbox and Clutch (similar to sport ratio)
Manual conversion
3.91 Diff (lsd if i can afford)
Possibly stick to a single pipe 320i system to prevent hacking of valance (unsure yet)

Budget broken down

Engine £250
Gearbox clutch and manual conversion £100 allready purchased.
Diff Non lsd £50
Cambelt and other serviceable bits £100
£100 on Exhaust
£100 for other bits and pieces i may need

I'am hoping not to spend anymore than £700 hopefully i can pick alot of the bits up cheap as ive got 3 month to get it done, or at least get it all ready to be done.

It was suggested to do an m50 conversion but ive decided to keep it simple, least everything can be bought "off the shelf" so to speak.

Will be picking the 320i gearbox, clutch and manual conversion up on Sunday so its a start :D

Need to invest in an engine hoist next :D

The best overall choice for your budget.

Dont you have a long journey to work though? Thought the sport was to juicy for that?

Thought it was only the pre-facelift 320i that had a single exhaust ? the later cars had twin ones but with smaller bore pipes than the 325i.

If you want it to look stock you'll need to chop the valance.

Or you could put a single slightly larger bore pipe in - but it would definately look molested then :(

The only 'tricky' bit of an M50 swap can be bought off DanThe..

M20 clutch/flyweel
M40 box/prop/linkage
Diff
M50 Engine - Mine cost me £150
Standard 325i exhaust could be used - Or an aftermarket if you wanted.

45 mins wiring.

Done.

Still think it was doeable for the money and a better end result, esp as you are doing the work yourself. 30 extra ponies and better MPG

Good luck though!

Well Small update

Ive sourced an engine, has 140k on the clock and coming out of a rotten scottish moredoor, paid £150 for it and the seller is letting me have everything i need cooling system the lot.

Ive also bought a nice shiney 6 branch, nothing flash i just like the look of them more than anything.

Image

Ive also bought a 320i Gearbox, Clutch, Flywheel, Prop and manual conversion etc from Magpie just need to get up to collect it all.

I'am also going to try a single pipe 320i exhaust system so i dont need to cut the rear valance, ive bought a centre section just need a backbox now.

Ive also purchased a used Mauritius blue passanger side front wing, typical once i get my car resprayed a seller lists all the panels i needed in the right colour arrhhh

Not sure how far i will get over the winter as its too cold, hopefully by spring i should be nearly there.

once ive got the car on the road i will invest in some 6 pot 40mm lowering springs and prehaps some new dampers all round.

I'am Allready looking forward to going to meets in summer 2012, bring it omn :D :D

then did the carpets, usually i remove the carpet to do this but i can never get the carpet back in the exact place when it goes back in and i want it in the exact place this time. to be honest it isnt much harder, footwells are but nothing you cant solve with a scrubbing brush
