Just wondered if anyone here has switched from fuel injection, to carburettor's? just something that has been playing on my mind, anyone with any idea's of power that can be obtained from doing so, and what the effect on fuel consumption will be?

i've been contemplating bike carbs, as ive heard of some really good things about bike carbs mated to car engines....

anyway, just wondering if anyone else there has similar thoughts. :D 8)

Hi Nick

ull need an inlet manifold-Ԛ£400ish, then 3 weber carbs-Ԛ£250ish each, then ull need a ecu to control the ignition.....

and at the end of the day ull have an awesome sounding beast which guzzles like a hippo.... not an everyday thing really.... with a cam and good zaust u should see nearly 200hp though! few kumho racers have this setup...may be worth asking them

cheers karan.

i was hoping if i could sort bike carbs onto it, i could get the bike carbs cheapo(ish) and it wouldnt guzzle too much fuel....

Ill keep noseying about though..

i love sound of straight 6 on carbs.....from sound of it, dont know if it'd be worth the expense though....unless i could get it all cheap.

well fuel economy isnt too much of a concern... just depends how much it goes down from what i get now

i stil got the bike carbs idea in my head cos i was hearing how you can pick em up cheap, and they can be fine tuned really nicely because they are used on bikes and have massive rev ranges.....depends which is cheaper and just how shit economy becomes haha

It's not really the rev range that's of concern, just the amount of air the engine consumes.

Extremely rougly speaking, a 1.0l engine at 10000prm will consume the same amount of air per unit time as a 2.0l engine at 5000rpm.

I guess finding a bike with the same power/cylinder as you want would be a good start.

My problem with carbs is that they're a bit primative and aren't easy to setup to be as versatile as engine management systems, but that's just me

i'll do my impressions of carbs and throttlebodies

from point of a car coming towards you....

ITB's:: bwwaaaaaaaaarppp bwaaarrrppp bwaaaaaaar bwaarp bwaarrrrp (last 2 was heeling and toeing)

CARBS:: "braaaaaaaaa braaaaaaaaaaa"

been reading retro cars old issue with bike carb feature thingy....a turnkey bike carb conversion on a 4cyl engine was just shy of Ԛ£600... i guess 6cylinder... would obviously be a bit more.

according to the place that carrys out conversion, bike carbs stay in tune much better, help revs like a good'n and even in some instances help with economy...

intriguing.. and also say look to make about 30bhp over the standard injection system...obviously emisiions go out the window though.

Thought *very briefly* about this for the M30, but even as a weekend car 7mpg is a little harsh!!

the bike carbs are normally CV type and fuel very well indeed as a result.
wonder what some flat slide mikunis would sound like

Carbs rule, nothing feels as crisp ( throttle response ) on a cold morning/summer evening.

agreed on the sound too

for the ignition the stock ECU can look after those, you'd need to use the stock TPS though M8
