Having felt inspired by Andy-Magic i've just pulled off the afore mentioned bits.
Daft question, but why is the inside of the TB,top half of air box and airflow metre covered in oil on the inside?
Is this normal?

Looks a mess, sure hasn't been cleaned for a loooooooooooong time!

Any ideas folks?

Thanks in anticipation :D

both mine (320 &525) have oil in it too-cars are running A1...

my Seat toledo had oil in the tube from air box to TB and never skipped a beat.

think its fairly normal....

I like your "Don't fix it policy if it ain't broke"! Good idea!
Got a bit of de'carboning to do on the TB,quite a bit in fact, but as for the oily bits, they can stay oily :D
Thanks for your help, gonna get back to clean up the bits and wreck the kitchen table in the process, followed by a hiding from the missus for getting oil and crap everywhere!
Thanks again

Oil residue etc is caused by the breather system, I know that the breathers are downstream of the TB and AFM but the oil vapour will get everywhere. Once it gets hot it will bake it on and carbonise is.

Mr Muscle oven cleaner is great for de-carbonising engine bits, it does exactly what it says on the tin - yes, seriously.

I read your ealier post with pictures of your inlet bits and hadn't read this, so excuse the stupid comment about my guide.

Hope it all works out for you!
