I've done a search on this but am still unsure about a few things. Is the headlining just fabric stuck to foam, or is it fabric, foam and a hard backing? Can I somehow just drop the front of the lining to give me access to the roof aerial mount?

iirc its lining/foam/hardboardlikestuff. as it isnt the same as a saloon one and requires more support to keep it up.

Are there any parts of it tucked under the front screen?

If its the ariel mount, you dont need to drop the lining. Its an 8mm nut on top. Just remove the ariel and the prise apart the 2 p;lastic halves. Then undo the nut and the mount should come free.

In that case.. now would be a good time to upgrade to a black sport headlining. The sunroof motorbracket needs to be dropped to get the cable past ( pending if it's been done properly when it was replaced)

Think you'll find there's a big hole at the back!

The good news is that the black factory headliner is still available for the Touring. The bad news (if you have a sunroof) is that the sunroof panel is NLA. Argh! Ask me how I found out. ...And before you get all clever and think you can just order the black panel from an E30 M3, the fabric is not a match. Double-argh!

I just ended up taking my car to an upholstery shop and they stripped and re-skinned the whole thing in swanky black cloth. Not an exact match to the factory item, but it looks great and is MUCH more affordable.

Col is refering to the black console thing that the visors attach through not the headlining itself.
All the roof aerials i have seen are held on with the 8mm nut which is on the outside under the plastic cover.

The black visor panel is a straight swop, and makes a great improvement to the crappy touring one. Did mine when I first bought it.

E30's on the continent do have different aerials, my M3 came with one when I bought it, but the end was snapped so I bought a new standard one.

You can see the aerial on Playos car in this pic, towards the rear...

Hi

My headlining on my touring is also drooping at the back and is a crappy cream colour, I am thinking of removing it and putting glue on the saggy bits, then giving it a coat of black spray, anybody done this before ????

Cheers

There's a similar thread going on here

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... highlight=

I know people who have said a headlining can be painted but i've never seen pictures. My headling is currently held up by a load of drawing pins. It looks great :(

There's another thread on this. Do a search for headlinings in the chat section.
