IÔš'm after some help again with my M40 to M42 engine conversion. This time it is to do with fuel.

My car is a 1991, which had a M40 318i engine originally. There are 3 fuel pipes entering the engine bay Ԛ—a a flow and a return and the third which goes in to some cylindrical thingy which I think is some sort of breather Ԛ—a incidentally the car had a CAT .

My M42 318iS car, which I am stripping for parts, has 3 fuel pipes Ԛ—a a flow and return plus a 3rd pipe, which is connected to nothing. This is a none-CAT car and there is a fuel filter at the front of the car.

My car has the fuel filter at the back. Question is will I have to swap over the filters, etc Ԛ… and what do I do with the third pipe.

Hope that all makes sense to someone coz its got me puzzled!

Move the fuel filter to the front, the black 'thing' you are talking about is a charcoal filter it captures the patrol fumes in the tank and feeds this back into the Intake of the engine.

So move the filter to the front, then leave that breather pipe that goes to the canister open and not attached to anything. Make sure its higher than the highest point of the tank or it will siphon out all the petrol.
