I know it was part of the face-lift, but is there an engine number for pre- and post- or a manufacturing date for the change so everyone can be sure?

ta

(I know this is similar to 'what engine do I have', but I thought if I put the question in the title I'd get more readers :D )

september 1987 for changeover, the saloon body was facelifted and the entire range given the lower CR and motronic management.

the engine CR change applies to all factory cabs produced after that date too.

Ant, humour me mate pretty clueless with engines but are the early higher CR engines better suited to either the 2.7 conversion or the turbo route or does it make no difference.

The early euro 9.75:1 engine will make a CR of 10.53 with the required block decking and material removed from the skirt to clear the crank ( check !!!! ) its a little high with the fuel of today, certainly require super U/L minimum or timing with a lot of retard, and lower power as a result

the 8.8:1 gives 9.5:1 with the 2.7, more realistic, but argueably easier to live with, and still potent

both CR are way to high to really FI with more than 7.5 psi (imho) CR in the 7.5:1 will have a much higher boost threshold, and ultimately more power, but will need the full monty big turbo, wasted spark and MS( or similar ) to get there, so major Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£ investment

I have said from the outset, anyone can go FI for 1.5K, and achieve decent results(240hp ish ), but once the bug bites, and it will, you'll be pulling another Ԛ£4K out , and smiling while you hand it over to your tuner of choice/ parts supplier
