Hi Guys, hope everyone is well.

Have a slight petrol leak on my car just in front of the rear N/S wheel, where I think ive located the fuel pump? Am I correct as most of the web seem to say its under the rear seat.?
TIA guys.

That would be the fuel filter under the car as said the fuel pump is in the fuel tank under the rear seat.

Early Jetronic cars had a pump there as well as under the back seat but by '87 and motronic times it was removed and only the filter is there.

Because it is a pump :D Not known later cars to have them but early Motronic cars were a bit of a basket case and they are all well over 30 years old so anything could have happened

Thanks mate. So would you think that is the only pump?

No there will be a pump under the back seat too, at least that's the way it is on the L-Jetronic models like my 323i.

My 325i is a bit later and only has one pump which is under the seat.

My '87 car has just the one pump in front of the n/s wheel- under the seat there is just the fuel-gauge sender-unit.

The way to tell if there is a pump in-tank is to check the number of electrical wires going into the top of the tank- if just 2(i think) wires are present then that suggests just a sender-unit is inside the tank. More wires means a sender plus pump is fitted.
