Water is supposed to get into the area and then drain out.

There are two drainage holes at the lowest point where the roof hinges are bolted to the floor of the stowage area - usually full of crap and blocked. Also the drains from inside the rear window stowage area to the sills are also partially blocked as well. Removing the rear inner side panels and rear window units gives good access to clean all of this up - essential if you don't wan to watch your cabby rot away from the inside.

Have to disagree. The seal around the horse shoe is supposed to keep water out, the drain holes are to cope with a failed seal. Horse shoe seals are either NLA or very expensive. Get a good one from a breaker.

But as above, make sure those drain holes are clear also.

There is a 5mm gap between the horseshoe and the window escutcheon allowing easy access for plenty of water off the roof, even with a new rubber - which is widely available from BMW, Leebmann, EBay, Pelican etc etc

Also at this point the rubber is flat and doesn't stop water ingress at all - just badly designed - but if your drains are clear then no issue at all.

had the same problem a few years ago , found on you tube how to clear the drain holes using a piece of brake pipe to guide a length of strimmer line into the drain hole and out to the sill , its a bit of a fiddle but it works
