I've had a vibration from the seats for a while which I guessed was the prop carrier - but having had it up on a ramp today and driving it at 20mph, the end of the gearbox bounces up and down, quite alarmingly.

Gearbox and engine mounts look ok albeit slightly compressed - they don't deform much when taking weight off. Guibo has small cracks but nothing compared to previous ones I've seen.

There is no vibration at the diff end.

Would a worn prop carrier cause the box to bounce up and down?

Check the bush in the gearbox output flange that keeps the prop. centered in the guibo. If this is worn, then if something (like the centre mount) is damaged, it would allow the front to vibrate.

Not yet- going to convert it to manual but will check the bush Brian mentioned when I do and report back.

The only part that was bad was the rear CV joint.

I'm part way through a manual conversion which would be complete if the parts were correct. That's being sorted though.

No mate- I didn't see anything wrong with any part other than the prop shaft cv joint at the diff. Odd as the diff didn't move- only the gearbox end
