If the speedo. is working, there's nothing wrong with the diff. sensor or its wiring.
I see you live somewhere that's generally a bit warmer than the UK, so it's likely that you have the problem that seems ro afflict US cars, where the plastic gearwheels that drive the odometer have failed.

I've just had the same problem and ordered new gears for my speedo from this guy...

Message him first to make sure you've the correct gear ratios, he's very helpful

instrument cluster comes apart easily enough - pull out the coding plug on the front right lower corner, remove all the self tapping screws around the outside of the rear of the case, and pull the two halves apart. SI board stays in the front half, rest stays in the back.IB6376CY wrote:Indeed...Mallorca....yes, speedo is fine, so I guess this means getting in to the guts of the instrument housing?
Unscrew the two screws on the back, behind the speedo, and pull the speedo assembly out. No idea how to change the gears, since it's a totally unheard of problem in the UK.

Hi,
I am based in the UK but my E30 was originally from Hong Kong and reimported to the UK.
The car is a 325i convertible and the odometer / tripmeters have just stopped working.
As the speedometer is still working I am thinking the gears have failed.
My question is are the gears the same for all models 318, 320 and 325 and is there any difference between MPH and KPH as my car has a KPH speedometer.
Thanks

Successfully delved into the speedo unit to find the small gear on the drive shaft has failed, all others (there are four) look good. It's a VDO unit reading kilometers. Now to source replacemets. Again, thanks for your input and thanks to Youtube!
