The immobiliser on my touring has been "disconnected" for a while and I want to remove all the remaining parts to clear up the rat's nest.

The 2 lots of wire that come out of the box are no longer attached to anything but there is a single black wire that goes to a block that's attached to the steering column. If I cut this last wire is it going to affect anything or should the system already be completely dead?

What's the block attached to the steering column?
Where are we in the above pic? Somewhere below the instrument cluster?

Edit: Looking at your sig. pic., is this a LH drive car?

Yes, left hand drive car, the black box is attached to the bulkhead under the instrument cluster. I don't have pictures of the block on the column but I'm assuming it's part of the ignition/stalk operation. I'll get pictures tomorrow to clarify.

This is what I have at the moment. This plug is hanging free.

These plugs are also doing nothing

There are 2 black wires coming from the immobiliser loom, one spliced into a red wire and the other spliced to violet and both going to this block on the column

Yellow/black is the starter motor control wire. If removing anything results in a break in this wire, you will have to join the two ends together.
Similarly, plain green is ignition switched live, primarily to the engine, and if unplugging anything results in a break in this wire, you will have to join the ends together.
All the black wires are part of the silly 'Thatcham approval' standards rubbish for alarms, so you'll have to follow these to where they connect to the original car wiring to find out what they really are.
In general, yellow/black, green, and green/purple (fuel pump) wires will need joining together, and others (usually red/x, brown, x/brown, blue/red, blue/black, grey/x) will just need following to source and removing.

Ok, so as I understand it the 2 black wires going from the (dead) immobiliser unit to the red and violet wires should already be defunct?
