How do I disconnect the electrical connectors?

They are enclosed in the long plastic box pictured below and I can't work out how to get at the spring clips to disconnect them.

Thanks for any help you can give.

you need to hook the clips out with a long thin flat driver ,mind you don't lose any as they can go airborne , i think you need to remove the inlet manifold first or at least it makes things easier,

I can't even see the clips. They seem to be enclosed in the long plastic box and a I can't work out how to get it off.

magpie, aren't you thinking of the mechanical clips that hold the injectors to the rail?

IIRC, the electrical plugs are exactly the same style as the blue/brown plugs to the right. You just press in (or pull out?) the little metal spring wire to loosen the plug, then pull up. They're just under that plastic box, not inside it. You just need skinny fingers.

On my 89 engine the connectors were the same as the blue and brown connectors and the clip squeezes in towards the connector to release them.

But this engine has different clips and I can't see how to release them. There doesn't seem to be any movement in them.

I have found some information in the comments on this page: http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techart ... eaning.htm (which seems to be what the zone wiki article is based on).

It seems that I must have an early type of connector.

Guess I'll have to try some brute force bodgery.

OK, brute force wins the day. Big screw driver under clip, lever upwards, and they pop off.

Next question. How is the top half of the C191 plug held into the metal mountinging bracket?

Thanks

C191 sandwiches the bracket, just like the C101 does. Bottom half protrudes upwards through the hole, top half screws on top to clamp it in place.

Lock ring. Exactly the same construction as the C101 or the diagnostic socket.

So, I think I have now got everything right on the intake side.

I know that some cowboy has messed with the AFM screw.

Whta should I do to set it right?

I have access to an exhaust gas analyser. What should the settings be?

Thanks

Set it to 1% CO, or slightly less.

Ben (or any other contenders) did you get the injectors out in the end without having to remove the inlet manifold?

I've done it a few times. The inlet manifold doesn't have to come off. Just remove the wiring loom as Ben has done, undo the two fuel hoses, unscrew the three bolts holding the fuel rail in place, and just prise the whole lot upwards.

Removed with manifold in place.

Partly followed the wiki article here: http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... _injectors

But found that I had an older type of electrical connector. At first I couldn't work out how to remove them but found that they popped off easily enough with a big screw driver.

Next change from the wiki procedure was to remove the clips that hold the fuel rail to the injectors and take the rail off leaving the injectors in the manifold. This made it much easier to get the rail out.

Then wiggled the injectors out of the manifold individually.

When reassembing I also put the injectors in individually then fitted the fuel rail. Getting the rail in with the injectors attached is very tricky and I was worried about bashing the newly refurbed tips.

There are four bolts holding the rail in, not three.
