How do you get the top bit off of the gear stick so that I can replace the bushing that goes on the top of the Ball on the gear stick?

To remove the gear knob, yank it upwards in a way that doesn't involve breaking your own nose. It's harder than it sounds.

Capri-Rob split a gear lever, but I cannot remember how he did it,probably my age!

A search may bring up the thread,or PM the guy,if he can help you,he will.

The top section has a circlip holding it in place - was a bitch of a job to do.

I've replaced the stick with a Z3 1.9 item,much easier and a shorter throw.

But as so many E30 owner's have taken this option,Munich ran out of spare gearlevers, and the new stock cost a little more!
