Yes! Anything except the genuine items from BMW.
It's very unusual to find a genuine lead that has deteriorated from new, except where some idiot has been yanking the caps off of the plugs by the wires, so the best route is to obtain a second hand set, which will have the ident sensor fitted to lead #6, unlike most aftermarket stuff.

Quick ad. in 'parts wanted', or a trip to a local scrappy.
What's happened to the ones you have?

It's a bit weird but at weekend she was running a dream then Sunday started missing. Disconnected battery thinking it might of picked up some fault and was trying to compensate for it over fuelling. Started her tonight and checked the leads and 1 -2 didn't seem to be sparking as well as they should . I put new plugs in as well as the old ones ( which weren't that old ) were black.
My mechanic man said probably best to get another set of leads.

When I say 1 and 2 they were the leads nearest the dizzy cap. I have a set off a 320 so could try swapping the baddies .

yes get genuine, mine had aftermarket on, I replaced them with after market twice after developing misfires over time (one set lasted a week) before putting on a set of original 1986 ones off my e28, still running like a dream

Get yoyrself down the scrappy!

A lot more than aftermarket....
I had a similar experience. I measured the resistance of my leads and was shocked to find them over 6500ohms. Then when I took them off I realised they were aftermarket :(

I'm going to BMW tomorrow so will get a price . Will try replacing the leads in question to see if I can get by then. Going to Surrey Sunday so wanting her to be ok for the run.

As long as they are below around 10,000 ohms, they should be OK to use.

This is true 6,500 ohms is not a problem...unless you are using these leads with resistive end caps which I have seen before! 8O

I'm pretty sure this is the part number > 12 12 1 720 529

If so, then it comes up at £267.42 at BMW Cooper.

I've got aftermarket leads made by BBT, bought from GSF. Around 90 quid, I think. No complaints so far, but I had them for less than a year.
