HI
I want to get new front calipers but have been advised that there are 2 different caliper manufactures for my year (1990 E30 320i 2door), either Girling or ATE.
My question is does it matter which ones I buy? Are the front caliper carriers the same for both manufactures?
I have read on the E30 zone wiki that the pads are the same but it doesnt reference the calipers themselves?
1 brand is more ££s than the other as well, so I assume they are different but in what way.
I have tried to see what part numbers are on my calipers but they are corroded and its difficult to see any numbers on them?
ATE or Girling Front Brake Caliper Replacement

The calipers are different, as can be seen when when comparing these 2 diagrams:
ATE:

Girling:

The most obvious visual difference is that the Girlings have a guiding pin at top and bottom with a small rubber dust cover.

Would you refurb your own callipers? You can get a seal kit from Biggred and use something like bilthamber deox-c or electrolyses to de-rust them.

The caliper carriers are also different so you cant mix carrier types with different calipers.
