Hi All,

I have recently purchased replacement water bottles for the wind screen and HLWW system.

I understand there should be three pumps, so the first image below shows my set-up.

Image

Firstly there are only two pumps - the one you can see, and the other one that is hidden at the rear of the larger bottle.

Secondly, the smaller bottle seems to be missing the outlet (drainage) hole for the washer pump.....??

The following pics are of the new bottle. I expected the smaller bottle to have the drainage hole for the pump. It doesn't.

How does this bottle work, as it is not linked/feed into the main one, and does not have the hole to tap into it to fit a pump?

I'm a bit confused... All help and advice gratefully received TIA. :D

:D I don't understand it. The new bottle is exactly the same as the old one - I'm only changing it so that it's cleaner. However, there is no way of fitting a third pump...! And I don't have a third pump, only two......

Car is fitted with HLWW system though.

Aren't the two bottles communicated? I think one is for water only, another for the washing liquid. They mix and one pump is for headlights and another pump for windscreen shield.

Hi Dan, the two bottles are not linked, they do not share fluids. I can see the benefit of having the smaller one hold "washing liquid", but there is no pump, or more importantly drain hole for the water to come out of it.

The two pumps fitted are both on the larger bottle. Perhaps the smaller one isn't required as I don't have something fitted in order to use it (intensive wash?) Anyway, bit odd.

Looks like the smaller bottle needs to be drilled to take the pump grommet. No idea why BMW would send them out like this, but, IIRC, you're not the first on her to come across this.

No Dan, and there isn't one on the replacement either. Does that mean I had the headlamp wiper system fitted, without the washer? Or is it a wash wipe system, that is missing the intensive wash, which is the fluid supplied from the smaller bottle?

What can I check, please?

^^. That exploded diagram shows the jets supplying the headlamps fitted to the larger bottle and its the rear one. The smaller bottle is shown with a hole (missing on both of mine) but no motors for the two front slots ....

Hi Diable, that makes sense. It looks like the double washer bottle is fitted, but the smaller bottle is blanked because the intensive wash system is not fitted. I guess it's easier to supply the bottle as it is with the drainage hole blocked.

The wiper stalk does not have the "s" as described. So, the windscreen and headlamps are fed using the two motors connected through the larger bottle.

I could add fluid to the smaller bottle - just for asthetics :D

Cheers matey!

Hahaha. That is an option I may consider when the weather is better, and the car is back on the road. I could celebrate with a trip to Pizza Hut. Might need some explaining, when the wife eventually gets home and wants to know why I vanished!! :D
