Changing a 318 m40 to 325, I've checked pin 20 and its a red-yellow wire...... So am I right in thinking I can plug the m20 loom in without fire??

As this, on some cars is an earth to behind the glovebox.

As long as there is no earth on the car side you should be fine. You only need power there if the car has ABS

If the red/yellow is on the body side, then you need to arrange a red/yellow to pin 20 on the engine loom as well, if it's not already there.
If the red/yellow is on the engine loom side, check pin 20 on the body side for a brown earth wire.
