so let me get this straight, this mod leaves all the lights on the ceck computer on the roof???

the back lighting to the lettering/symbols stays on, ( i hope thats what were on about anyway or iԚ´ll be mighty if it isnt )

but this mod means that instead of the backlight dropping out after 3 seconds, it now stays on.

not really that important, but i fancy this one

the same point as getting the zone demister switch! And yes, it's just for the back light.

Ha! you should have told me earlier, then i could have sent you a complete unit, minus board. I think the sealed units stay just that, sealed. But if you've knackered it, then just do the mod' to the board, use the face plate tht i sent you & if you need i'll send the plastic cup thingy that keeps it all together.

make sure the board is made by either bosch or hella before carving it up. If it's by VDO(?) then the process is slightly different. Don't worry too much about trashing your casing as your board will fit my holder (ooerr).

i tried it, but itԚ´s not workin for me
i am sure i scrubed the right pin but the curcuit board on the vdo is different than the hella version (at least from the pic u have to my one is)

what else could it be?

this mod will make you cool..... i am not shittin you
anyone who gets in your car will look at the panel and say " does it tell you if you need motor oil? thats clever" and then start paying attention to how exellent an e30 with extras really is

To clarify, this mod just leaves the check control labels illuminated in white, not the red warning lights.

sorry to dig this thread out of history but i need help!!
i took the two cc-s from scrapy one was VDO and other is hella
and destroyed the pin 25 on both as i read on the ZONE and on e30.de BUT
when i plug them they are not working, it just lights "motor oil" LED and thats it, on both of them
i didnt try the third bosch but i dont think it will work
so anyone know what is the problem???
is this working on just post-facelift models or what
because mine is pre-fl
anyone did this with pre-fl model
please guys help i would like to have that illumination

It sounds as if you're probably destroying the wrong pin! The pictures on e30.de aren't that clear from my experience. I'll see if i can dig out a picture of the board in my cc panel.

A very belated bump on this. I'm guessing there's a lot of people don't know about this, It's a great little mod and costs nothing!

Update on the VDO type check panels that are sealed.

You need to go in from the top.
The "panel glass" can be prised out from the middle , and arched to give enough clearance for the tabs on either end to free up, then just lift out the bulb housing,
The circuit board can then be plucked out of the housing , no probs

When looking at the chip , there is a "half moon" indentation on the edge of one of the sides.
This side is used for orientation, and then its count the 4th pin down and scrape

Not more that 10 minutes work

So to summarise, pin 25 needs disconnecting, either on the PCB, or by removing it from the connector in some way?
