Can anyone tell me how to switch the ABS off? I can't find a fuse to pull.

As I'm here, any thoughts on the problem would be appreciated :D

At speeds under about 5mph one of the sensors seems to think a wheel is locked, which fires the ABS. This is annoying and lengthens the braking distance but it also causes all sorts of worrying noises. Sometimes the ABS warning light comes on (usually only when the car is cold oddly) and if it does, the problem goes away. Although this obviously means I have no ABS, the car is a lot nicer (and over all safer) to drive like this than it is with the ABS going loopy.

I'll get the ABS checked but in the mean time, how do I deactivate it?

Thoughts appreciated please E30 gurus :D

Cheers. Where can the big silver abs ecu usually be found on what was a 325i Touring? :)

Exactly how i described the problem to someone on here about 3 months ago, check the resistance of the two front abs sensors. They should be the same, if not replace one. I can't remember which way it is, whether they should have high or low resistance. Do a search on here.

Definatly sounds like a sensor to me, exactly the same symptoms as mine. Good luck

Sensors should have a DC resistance of just under 1000 ohms.

Also, neither of the pins on the sensor should go to earth, so check this too!

Cheers for the replies. I've pulled the plug out of the ABS ECU and the problem has effectively gone away. Just need to fix the root cause now so I can plug the ABS back in :)

another disable option is to pull out the abs relay. This is the silver cased relay that is stuck under the dash behind the glovebox next to the abs controller.
