not from an E30, but i've work on car air con systems, and refridgerant is not fun
someone i work with had a blast in the face with the tinniest little bit, and he said it felt like his hold head and throat swelled up. he couldnt breathe properly and had to go home via the hospital!!!
the only proper way of releasing the refridgerant from the system is to have it 'recovered' using a machine, and even then, there is residual pressure

Hi
I used to be a refrigeration engineer, and cracking open the lines either sdie of the compressor should vent the system if there is any pressure after that you must have a blockage somewere.
The drier is filled with sillica gell, but i would never reuse one.
The recovery equipment should put the system into a vacumm and leave no gas.
And on an old r12 system NEVER let the gas get near a naked flame it makes Phosgene.

Nope, totally different parts.Markey wrote:Is the dryer the condensor?
The condenser is a small radiator style unit that fits in front of the main engine radiator. The dryer is the round bottle thing with 1 or 2 pressure switches on it (fits behind the drivers side headlamp).
