Megasquirt Conversion
Moderator: martauto
I am converting a early high comp m20b25 to megasquirt and was wondering is it better to first upgrade the early motronic sensors for the newer 1.3 ones (mainly the crank sensor and wheel), then do the megasquirt or leave it be with the older crank senor and wheel etc?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I know NOTHING about Megasquirt, but would think it unlikely that it would be able to accept something so primitive as the two input signals from the pre facelift sensors'
There's also the distinct possibility of the flywheel shedding the indexing pin at the higher revs you'll presumably be running the engine to.

[quote="ross2009"]yeah the wheels will fit there the same but youll also need the vr sensor bracket
might i ask what is the reason for going ms ??[/quote
Cheers fella.
I got a early high comp engine which didn't have an ecu fairly cheap, i'm putting it in my 2002 once I have finished welding it up!
I want some kind of system I can play around with the tuning on.
I already have a 2002 with the 2.0 m10, just doesn't have the same sound as the 6pot, but I don't want to go too mad just yet
, thinking of a turbo later.

depends how far you wanna go i think i spent approx 3.5 k on my engine i rebult the whole lot obviously you dont have to do that but with some uprated head studs and and a decent size turbo and ms you prob looking at less than a grand but then its thinking of ya turbo exhaust, uprated brakes mapping etc etc

you dont need a guide its litterally unplug the ecu pull the big grommet out of the bulk head and pull it thro and take the reast of he engine loom with itretroboyo wrote:Are there any guides for putting the latter harness on a high comp M20
and reverse for putting it bk it i think i done one in about 20 mins before its easy and had the engine bk in and running with in an hour

I think i read it somewhere on here too, diyefi.co.uk has a write up on installing MS. I think I read that as well when I was doing a bit of research, it was all a bit confusing at first! now it seems to make sense
.
What you running yours on?

I still have some notes from when I had to fix mine. Did a facelift engine into a pre-facelift shell and body loom. If you run into any troubles with the tacho, give me a shout.AK34 wrote:I think i read it somewhere on here too, diyefi.co.uk has a write up on installing MS. Nice one, won't be for a few months yet, but much appreciated.E30_Crazy wrote:I still have some notes from when I had to fix mine. Did a facelift engine into a pre-facelift shell and body loom. I've got all my drawings too from when I did mine. I can email u a copy if you pm me your address. Mine is a high comp 2-5 with motronic 1.3 wheel and sensor. The bracket can be bought from bm for about a tenner. Both fuel rails will work and either form of injector loom can be easily adapted. I'd sling the original loom and buy a short loom from extra efi, Phil sold me my ecu and offers sh1t hot support. Either buy new Bosch style connecters or snip them off the loom and solder them into your new loom. Benefits here are that you can customise where your loom runs.
I've PM'd you, just sorted out the 1.3 wheel and sensor with bracket tonight.b12rlw wrote:I've got all my drawings too from when I did mine. I can email u a copy if you pm me your address. no keleb I was referring to the megasquirt out put
yeah it's pretty straight forward to work with I made my own harness and used it plug and play to the BMW loom
but we kept having a little fault so the guy that mapped it made me a new loom and all was sorted
