How to work out what diff is on my 320i?

Go under the car mate.
On the rear of the diff, you'll spot a small metal strip, which will have the numbers on it. It will most likely be corroded/rusted up like mad so you'll need a wire brush or sand paper. I snapped mine off and sanded it to see what it was. Let us know!

Will do that tomorrow and post it on here then hopefully someone will know.
Failing that I vaguely remember someone saying you can turn and count something.... Ring any bells?

Basically, lock one wheel, then turn the other and count how many turns the prop makes relative to it. The trouble is that your options are 4.1, 4.27 or 4.45, if it's a touring, so actually counting the final part of a turn won't be easy.
Still, the difference between a 4.1 and 4.27 won't make a huge difference to your speed, acceleration or fuel economy at the end of the day.
