Help I'm confussed :? :?

A recent problem my IS has developed is when you say stop at a set of lights the revs drop as would normally happen but then stick a about a 1000 for about 5/6 seconds before dropping to a normal idle. Its as though its running on cold start.

Its not a sticky throttle cable as I can't get it happen when the car is stationary.

I admit that the temp gauge never gets out of the blue but as far as I'm aware that side of things is indepentdant of the running.

Any ideas would be of great help because not only is it anoying but fuel economy is down which is not good seeing a tenner don't get you far these days.

Cheers :)

as you've checked the cable i'd consider cleaning the butterfly & the inner channel of the throttle body, check the condition of your air filter or it could also be a fault with the ECU

Will have a look thanks but would have thought that any of those would affect the running whether it be under load or not same the throttle cable.

It definitely only does it once you come to a stop

If your temp. gauge never gets out of the blue sector, then this will seriously affect the running of the car and your fuel consumption.
New thermostat time ASAP.

I thought is was a faulty gauge as even after a 70 mile trip or a 1 1/2 mile crawl to school the needle sits at the top of the blue and the heater blows warm air.

Its only short journeys that I've made of late so couldn't say it it over idles after a long run,

Never come across a faulty gauge, or its sensor, yet, other than the well known loose brass nut on the back and SI board battery troubles.

If it is running cool, could it cause of the cold start to cut in and out thus causing the high idle?

Will have a look at the thermostat tomorrow

Thanks
