Good informatione30Passion wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 12:16 amHere are the rest of the OEM manufacturers for the rest of the e30 parts..
That was not my question, I wanted to know the make supplied by BMW now, as you probably know BMW have supplied 'genuine parts' exhausts made by different people over the years , some of which were not best quality.e30Passion wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 12:16 amOriginal BMW E30 OEM exhaust for the majority of the e30 series are made by a company called Eberspacher. I would not go to BMW for exhaust parts anyway. You pay top price for something that is worth less then half of what they charge.. no matter who made it! Go to the internet for Eberspacher or anything OEM (now you know the OEM brand used) unless you dont care about the cash spending. My backbox is now little of 10 years old from new (from the internet for just 70 Euro's) but it is rotten again with holes in it so i too need another one again.
Didn't know necessarily that BMW supplied different brand exhausts to be honest. I am in the Netherlands so dont know if we have the same problem. I ques you will only find out when you go and buy one.
I would highly advise new OEM exhaust parts to be ceramic coated and treated inside and out, especially the backbox. To the very least a good sanding before heat resistant paint, including the brackets. Using stainless steel nuts and bolts to mount the thing is also not a bad idea. The originals are rubbish.
Cleaning that bonnet must have been a pain in the arse

The correct exhaust for a 1989 325i cab is manufactured by Boysen. Not Eberspacher.e30Passion wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 11:20 pmI would not go to BMW for exhaust parts anyway. Everything thing I’m replacing on my car is OEM and most of it purchased from BMW. The exhaust system I’ve brought will be high temp painted, not ceramic coated. Can’t justify the extra cost really and in my experience painted keeps it in good nick!
Anyway, this is a thread on my resto progress not a place to discuss right and wrong

Bonnet looking great. I hadn’t realised I was missing a timing belt sticker in this location, I shall be ordering myself one!
Looking forward to seeing more engine bay, good luck and keep up the great work.

Productive day stripping down the engine bay (as much as I can while I still need to move the car about!) for a good clean.
Note this is the only time you will ever see me smile before cleaning!!
Up on the ramp after my ‘staycation’ for a FULL service! Exciting!

Great work on this car Bex. The bonnet looks great - hard work I know but worth it. Hope you do some before and after pictures in the engine bay as it is always interesting and encouraging to see the improvements made possible by a good clean. Good thread.

Everything given a thorough check over, and all worn/broken/past their best parts will be replaced when we rebuild

Because a 15A fuse won't blow in the event of seized pump, whereas the correct 7.5A one will. 15A ones tend to get fitted when a pump starts to fail and occasionally blows the fuse. The uninformed person's response to a blowing fuse is often to fit a bigger one, which in this case 'fixes' the problem, but, of course, removes much of the protection against fire from the circuit. Pump eventually fails completely and gets replaced, but the 15A fuse rarely does.

How is it so wide spread and common that a 15A fuse gets fitted? Is it a bit like the 318iS galvanised chassis joke someone made once, and for some reason it became gospel? It seems to come up an awful lot. When using good old Google, there a couple of links to printed media with both 7.5 and 15 amp fuses listed for position 11.Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 2:22 pmBecause a 15A fuse won't blow in the event of seized pump, whereas the correct 7.5A one will. 15A ones tend to get fitted when a pump starts to fail and occasionally blows the fuse. The older E30s that used two fuel pumps (lift in the tank and pressure in front of LH rear wheel) used a 15 fuse, so there are fuse charts in existence that show that for fuse 11, but the main reason is what I described - a failing fuel pump. I've written on here before about the two weeks I once spent touring Europe with a deteriorating pump that needed frequent attacks with a blunt instrument to re start it. The first thing I did on that occasion was change the fuse to 15A, but I did change it back again when I replaced the pump.
Swapped it over an no issues ;) thanks for the heads up!Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 10:40 pmThe older E30s that used two fuel pumps (lift in the tank and pressure in front of LH rear wheel) used a 15 fuse, so there are fuse charts in existence that show that for fuse 11, but the main reason is what I described - a failing fuel pump. I think keep it grey paint.
BMW quoted me almost a grand for the front and rear silencer. Got gen ones through Schmeidmann for just over £600. They’re worth checking out!
A few pics from the last week....

Resonator + downpipe: 18101719068 - 444 euro

Cheers for that. I ordered the parts I linked above, listed as OEM parts, were delivered with all the beemer stickers and part numbers stamped on them and they're made by Boysen.
Honestly can't fault Schmeidmann, they've been great for the bigger priced items that from BMW direct cost a fortune!
