ive just spent all day casting doubt in si`s mind over the colour

i still think im right and stand by my judgement and can tell by simons reaction that he still isnt 100% sure.

I've seen Alpina blue in the flesh/metal and its not the best E30 blue out there.

Fresh diamond black is stunning in the sun when clean, you can see green and purple in it if you look close.

I know v little about body work, did you buy the replacement panels all from BMW, are they pattern parts, or were they made from scratch? or a mix of the 3?

Thanks, but its not me doing the work, i'm just the narater. I wih i had the skill to do panel and paint but my area is mechanical allthough i did two years of body fitting for the bodyshop but im now back in the service side of our site.

All panels where bought new from BMW or 100% rust free secondhand panels. Some of the sections welded in were cut out from breaker E30's which didn't have rust in the area. Which has helped with the repair work i think.

you won't be able to tell when the cars painted where it's been welded which i love! Genuine panles have meant that all the panel gaps are right on the money also

I use to build my c2 2.7 . The Alpina blue color is very expensive(about 250pound/L). I go with the BMW color;Mauritusblue Met #287

I feel,top30,that at this point in this project the cost of the proper blue paint is the least of Simon's problems.He can always glue a few more bricks down to cover the extra cost of blue paint....

Paint cost is the same no matter what colour unless its some flip or metal flake concoction.

Alpina blue is near identical to Ford Tazman Blue, a colour commonly found on mid to late 80's Escort/Orion/Sierra Ghia's.

I've had an Escort and Saphire in this colour.

bring back memories of the one i had, which happened to have a blue printed S1 turbo CVH installed, with a few tricks.

on topic though , as far as i recall, there can be quite a variation in paint cost if its straight colour, metalic, pearl mica etc

out of cusiority will this be painted with cellulos or water based paints ?
