Read somewhere that the numbers relate somehow to the date that development started.

A long time ago there was only 3 series, 5 series, 7 series.
These ‘gaps’ have now been filled and additional series added. Was this part of a plan to leave gaps for future expansion of the range and consequently was this thinking applied to the E numbers, ie leaving gaps deliberately?
Who knows.

That also coincidentally is the time when BMW put quality and performance above everything else.minesapint wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 8:23 pmA long time ago there was only 3 series, 5 series, 7 series.
The Era of when there was only the 3, 5 (not forgeting early 6 e24) and 7 was when IMHO they were at their peak.
Has anyone seen the 2 series....
