How many miles do you guys do in your e30? I've done nearly 1,000 miles in the last wk without her missing a beat, and do about 20k a year. I'm considering a 328/330 e46 coupe to replace the e30 at the moment on the grounds that mine's too much of a focused sports car and not ideally suited to doing all these miles (quite noisy, not exactly luxurious etc), but am unsure of whether it will end up costing a load more money to run, whether it will actually be any more reliable etc, and i'll clearly miss the way the IS looks and performs. Was pretty uninspired by a 330 coupe I drove last wk in terms of straight line performance, but the chassis seemed very good.
Here's a nice pic of the IS all dirty when i stopped for gas last night (£10 for 130 miles :D):

and a few weeks ago at beemer redeemer:

So come on then, who does more than 20k a year in their e30?

I catch the train to work and only use my car weekends thats why it only has 73,00 miles on the clock

About 4-5K in the E30.

The E36 is my daily work turd. Most I've done in a year in that is 30K. No way would I do 30K per annum in an E30!

Nothing against the E30 but mainly because I'm too tall and the top of my head is indented in the sunroof! Crap "un-comfort" seats too! It will stay as a weekend toy. :D

lol you sound like me (with the very very very mild cams!). must admit my mild cams are a bit of a disappointment - I mean I'm chuffed it still pulls like a train (I've gained throughout the rev range, tested on the rollers) and idles like factory, but hasn't exactly done as much as i'd like for the performance. A stronger inlet cam will go in mine if i hang on to it, would like to get 200bhp on the standard inlet manifold etc with perfect daily driving behaviour. It will still then have cams less wild than some factory s14s, and with smaller valve size/squarer engine so it should still pull nicely. What does the 30mm refer to when you say port to 30mm? you got a 2.5l block now? Any thrreads anywhere about your engine? Would like to see what you've been upto!

DanThe, that's some serious mileage :O You on LPG yet?

Tim ive got three engines on the go right now;

A MS 2.5 ~ 330bhp
A MS 2.0l long rod ~ 260-290bhp
A Stock short block but uprated Top end 2.3 for road use (shim under, lighter valves, top hats etc) ~ 240bhp

No threads mate, dont see anyone being interested in this on the Zone.

30mm is where each inlet port is 30mm in diameter

Me as well!! The E30 seats (both types - I drive E30s with both) are the most comfortable car seats I've ever ridden in. I've done six hour non stop driving stints (another advantage of LPG) and got out of the car as fresh as I got in.
The only other BMW I get to ride in or drive regularly is an '06 535D, and I wouldn't swap that for an E30. I don't find it any more comfortable, and it's utterly soul less.

We were doing around 25k per year, but since having the R5 I now do about 15k in that instead.
The Tourings done 239k of which over 85k are "our" miles.Splendid :D

Ive done 14k since i bought the car in july 06 and the only thing to go wrong was the clutch master and slave cylinders, the rest has been maintenence or upgrades.
tim_s, i had a 330ci convertible at the same time as this and one had to go because of my first child. I chose to keep the E30 as 330's are ten appeny, will depreciate, and i wasn't overwhelmed with it tbh. My E30 was the opposite of this. Yes the E46 was nice but didn't excite me or make sense economicly.

x2!!!

I used to have a daily 70 mile round trip to work, as well as a fair bit of 'leisurely' driving. I bought our 4 door with 89k on it and within 3 months it had 96k. :? I find it very comfortable and quiet on the motorway, even with the mongoose exhaust that went on not long after i got it, although it was on the standard suspension at the time.
In my current job i have an 8 mile round trip to work, so i'm keeping the mileage down on the tech 1 (although i'm using the 4 door again at the mo), but the fuel consumption is horrific as its always running cold. Still I have more petrol money these days to have fun at the weekend. :D

No, im saving the kit I have for an E34 525i touring, my E30 is overweight enough as it is and I think a gas tank behind the back wheels would just kill the fun factor.
Once I have a 5 touring up and running on gas the E30 will take a bit of a back seat as the kids are getting bigger and rear leg room is non forgiving.
I may gas it and give it the mrs or I may sell it, either way I wont be driving it very often... :(

hOW TALL ARE YOU? I AM 6"5 and have no issues with roof height or leg length in an e30 unlike a lot of other cars which is one of the reasons I have stuck with them. As for mileage i do 10k per annum and agree the e30 is perfect for a daily driver except for fuel consumption and the regularity of little niggles that need sorting as for reliability though they really are very good if properly maintained.

Whilst an E30 is a great car and has numerous plus points its refinement is nowhere near an E34 nevermind a 5 Series two generations later. Even an E36 is in a different ball park in terms of comfort. The appeal of the E30 (for me anyway) is in its rawness and the way it connects with the driver. Comfort seat are crap though, period!

P.S. I'm happy to swap the E60 for my E30

I do anout 22k a year, on my m40 1.8 AUTO (haha) returns 30mpg consistent motorway, sports seats in leather are more comfortable than the wifes E46 sport seats with electric lumbar support. No real issues just regualr oil changes and services and just now am replacing the elcetric heater valve.

Long live the E30's.

I switch between the iS and the cab, approx 6 months each in a year. Total mileage about 4000. Then I'm lucky, I don't have to drive to work :D

I did nearly 3000 miles over the last year in the E30 touring, and so far have only done 2000 in the E36 touring since buying it in March.

The H27 hasn't turned a wheel since my ownership yet.

The 318is I have just bought, already done nearly 500 miles in the week I've owned it... love that car lol.
The other E30's aint turned a wheel this year andmy daily driver (205GRD) I have done about 10K this year.

Wondering why I still have the Black SE as I dont use it anymore

i find the e30 sports seats the most cmfortable ive ever used.

i do about 20miles each way to work in the 325 and it hasnt let me down yet, even frozen solid it starts right away.
if i drive like a saint (ie 70mph) on the motorway it does 30m/g happily.

I used to do around 500-600 miles a week in the old 325 tourer when using it as a daily driver

I now have a company van so it sits at home most of the time and only comes out at weekends and the occasional evening

Now £100-£120 better off each week as the company pays for my fuel bill now
So that's more disposable income to spend on the "Old barge"
