Most desirable diff for most e30 owners. Get it quick and don't tell anyone where you saw it

To be honest... no! Well not 'til you've tried it anyway... Otherwise a cheap diff just becomes an expensive one!325dude wrote:would it be worth getting it reconditioned ????? and if so any ideas where?.........j

Agreed, they're very reliable/robust diffs when used with standard powerplants.Just fit it to see if its noisy,if its not just put some fresh LSD oil in it from the dealer.

Is that plus parts ?M3Compact wrote:Ԛ£100 - Ԛ£120 labour for a full strip/rebuild/LSD set-up.
I've got a noisey 3.25LSD from an M3 that could do with fixing at some point.

Yes mate, it's Ԛ£100 - Ԛ£120 for the labour charge. It's around 3 - 4 hours work for a complete strip down and rebuild. Is that plus parts ?
The replacement oil is nearly as expensive as new bearings.

Do you rebuild them your self ?

It's about 40 quid for two litres, just take a container down with you for them to decant it from there bulk oil drums.Just ask for LSD dif oil.

I have done, and I'm not a wizard with the spanners.Do you rebuild them your self ?
The rally car workshop usually build mine now, mega experienced competition gearbox/diff guru. I've had so many PMs and emails from various sources about rebuilding LSDs, that I asked at the workshop for a fixed price rebuild service. Ԛ£100 - Ԛ£120 is the price and they're 5hit hot. (They're nothing to do with me financially/commercially, rallying is my hobby only.)
Any good quality fully synthetic LSD specific oil is ok for these diffs, they're excellent ZF LSD units, as used in many non-BMW applications. (Ford Capri, Opel Manta etc.)It's about 40 quid for two litres, just take a container down with you for them to decant it from there bulk oil drums.Just ask for LSD dif oil.
Personally, for a standard road car I'd be tempted to use a cheaper LSD oil.
